Workshop on Information System in Distributed Environment (ISDE 2009)
Vilamoura, Portugal Held in conjunction with OTM’09 (Nov 1-6) http://www.onthemove-conferences.org/ Proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag Distributed information systems development, deployment and operation are the new business paradigm that organizations are adopting to meet their business challenges and derive competitive advantage. Distributed information system development, deployment and operation efforts have increased in recent years. In distributed environment, business units collaborate across time zones, organizational boundaries, work cultures and geographical distances, something that ultimately has led to an increasing diversification and growing complexity of cooperation among units. The real-world practice of developing, deployment and operation of information system in globally distributed projects has been viewed from various perspectives, though technical and engineering in conjunction with managerial and organizational viewpoints have dominated the researcher’s attention so far. Successful participation in distributed environment, however, is ultimately a matter of the participants understanding and exploiting the particularities of their respective local contexts at specific points in time and exploring practical solutions through the local resources available. Suggested topics that this workshop will endeavour to address include, but are not limited to, the following: Empirical evaluations of effectiveness of distributed information system projects SE methodologies and processes for distributed information system development Infrastructure required for distributed information system Effectiveness of agile methods in distributed information system Methods and tools for distributed information system: requirements engineering, architecture, design, coding, verification, testing and maintenance Quality, process and configuration management for distributed information system SE education support for distributed information system development Operational and maintenance challenges of distributed information systems Management of risks such as organizational and cultural differences Methods and practices for effective project performance in a distributed information system projects Task allocation in distributed information system development Organizational and business views Strategic issues in distributed information system development Knowledge transfer, knowledge management strategies and informal sharing in distributed information system development Cognitive issues in distributed information system development, deployment and operation Communication and collaboration in globally distributed teams Impact of cultural and geographical differences in distributed information system SUBMISSION GUIDELINES All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. Papers submitted to ISDE’09 must not have been accepted for publication elsewhere or be under review for another workshop or conference. All papers will be peer-reviewed by the PC members. Two types of papers in English (in PDF format) are invited from academia and industry: Short paper: maximum 5 pages for position papers or work-in-progress Full paper: maximum 10 pages for research results or experience The final proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag as LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science). Failure to commit to presentation at the conference automatically excludes a paper from the proceedings.
