Call For Papers

The First Aizu Conference on Biomedical Informatics and Technology (ACBIT 2013) will make a celebrating event of the 20th Anniversary of the University of Aizu. The University of Aizu has the largest School of Computer Engineering and Science in Japan. Major measures for the revitalization in Fukushima Prefecture include on-going provision of wide-ranging support for mental health care; encouragement of medical industry clusters including biomedical research, drug development focusing on cancer treatment, creation of industries to meet the needs of an aging society; creation of centers for early diagnosis and state-of-the-art treatment of diseases and disorders.

With an emphasis on the applications of computer, physical, engineering and mathematical models for solving modern challenging problems in medicine, biology and health; the conference aims to bring biologists, medical and health-science researchers together with computer-science and computational scientists to focus on problems at the frontier of biomedical informatics and technology. A goal of this meeting is that the interactions of scientists across several disciplines will lead to the identification of new scientific investigations, shape future directions for strategic research, and help industrial users apply advanced computer techniques for solving practical life-science problems.

As another important aspect, the conference aims to provide opportunities for postgraduate research students to present latest research results and establish links with experts across several scientific disciplines.

Topics include, but not limited to the following:
Addressing important problems in medicine, biology and health using image analysis, computer vision, pattern analysis and classification, information visualization, signal processing, control theory, information theory, statistical analysis, information fusion, numerical analysis, fractals and chaos, optimization, simulation and modeling, parallel computing, computational intelligence methods, machine learning, data mining, decision support systems, database integration and management, cognitive modeling.

Publications:
The proceedings of the symposium will be published as a book in Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) Series (http://www.springer.com/series/7899). All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. Authors of high-quality papers presented at the conference will be invited to extend their papers for publications in special issues of some SCI-index journals (pending final approval).
