5th IEEE WORKSHOP ON BROADBAND WIRELESS ACCESS
co-located with IEEE GLOBECOM 2009 http://www.bwaws.org/GLOBECOM2009/ November 30, 2009, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA AIMS AND TOPICS Internet access is undergoing a fundamental change. A steadily increasing spectrum of services is attracting a rapidly growing number of users which, in turn, wish to access these services 'anytime and anywhere'. In order to meet this demand, Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) technologies are becoming extremely important and vendors and standardisation bodies respond to this development with new and powerful BWA technologies. Supporting transmission rates up to several megabits per second at distances far as tens of kilometres while providing full mobility support, these technologies provide the long-awaited means for delivering any telecommunication service over the Internet. BWA technologies are yet in their infancy and one outcome is that many are far from being complete and optimised for such a versatile environment like the Internet. Consequently, BWA is currently receiving much attention by the research community. By organising this 5th IEEE BWA Workshop, it is our intention to bring together and provide an international forum for this research community. In this line, the workshop programme covers various aspects of these technologies including but not limited to: - Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks - 3G/4G Wireless Technologies - Incumbent and Future BWA Technologies, 802.16x, LTE, LTE-Advanced and IMT-Advanced Networks - QoS in Mobile and BWA Networks - Cross-layer Optimisation Concepts and Experimental Evaluation - Radio Resource Management, Admission Control, Power Control and Scheduling - Capacity Planning and Traffic Engineering - Femtocells and Self-configuring Cellular Networks - Wireless Network Management, Self-optimizing cellular networks - Physical and Data link Layer Issues - Characterization, Modeling of BWA Traffic, Mobility and Channels - Large-scale and Heterogeneous BWA Evaluations - Interoperability Aspects (fixed/mobile LANs/MANs, WANs) - Spectrum Management, Regulatory Issues - Cognitive Radio and Dynamic Spectrum Access - Interference Management (Coordination, Mitigation, Randomization) - Cooperative Networks, Repeaters and Relaying - Mesh and Relay Networks (IEEE 802.11s, IEEE802.16j, etc.) - Multi-antenna Technologies (MIMO, Beamforming, Antenna Selection, etc) - Quality of experience (QoE) - Energy-awareness and Efficiency of BWA technologies - Design and Evaluation of BWA Testbeds and Field Trails - Experiences/Lessons from recent Deployments - Broad- and MulticastSupport in BWA networks - Micro and Macromobility Management - Applications and multimedia support (e.g. Vehicle-2-X Communications) PAPER SUBMISSION Submitted papers must represent original material that is not currently under review in any other conference or journal, and has not been previously published. Paper length should not exceed six-page technical paper manuscript. Please see the Author Information page for submission guidelines in the IEEE GLOBECOM 2009 website. The paper should be used as the basis for a 15 minute workshop presentation. Papers should be submitted in pdf format by selecting GLOBECOM'09 at the EDAS paper submission website EDAS and then selecting the workshop submission link. All submitted papers will be reviewed by up to three experts and if accepted, published in the conference proceedings, which will be available at IEEEeXplore. At least one author of accepted papers is required to register at the full registration rate.
