Introduction
The design and adaptation of Cognitive Architectures (CA) is a wide and active area of research in Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence and, more recently, in the area of Computational Neuroscience. Cognitive architectures have been historically introduced i) to capture, at the computational level, the invariant mechanisms of human cognition, including those underlying the functions of control, learning, memory, adaptivity, perception and action and ii) to reach human level intelligence, also called General Artificial Intelligence, by means of the realization of artificial artifacts built upon them. During the last decades many cognitive architectures have been realized and, agents based on such infrastructures, have been widely tested in several cognitive tasks involving learning, perception, reasoning, action execution, selective attention, recognition etc. This special issue is intended to provide a fair overview of the research being carried out in the interdisciplinary area of cognitively inspired AI systems designed and integrated with existing or novel CA. Both papers presenting theoretical and applied research contribution in the field are welcome. List of Topics We encourage authors to submit original work on cognitive robotics. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): Cognitive Architectures in Robotics and Human Robot-Interaction Knowledge Representation and Reasoning in Cognitive Architectures Knowledge discovery and acquisition in Cognitive Architectures Challenges and Open Problems of Cognitive Architectures Evaluation of Cognitive Architectures Methodological open questions on Artificial Systems based on Cognitive Architectures Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing & Understanding in Cognitive Architectures Requirements of Cognitive Architectures for General Intelligence General Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Architectures Computational Creativity and Cognitive Architectures Spatial Cognition and Computation in Cognitive Architectures Computational Models of Narrative Understanding in Cognitive Architectures Submission Guidelines Submissions to the special issue must include original research. Papers must be new and have not been published or submitted to other journals. Authors should prepare their manuscript according to the "Guide for Authors" available at the journal homepage: http://www.journals.elsevier.com/cognitive-systems-research/. Submission should be made via the EVISE system: https://www.evise.com/evise/faces/pages/homepage/homepage.jspx?_adf.ctrl-state=10f3bazys2_132. Authors must select “Special Issue: Cognitive Architectures” when they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process. All papers will be peer-reviewed following the reviewing procedures of the Cognitive Systems Research (CSR) journal.
