Call For Papers

The Technology Division of the Cultural Studies Association (CSA) invites abstracts for papers and panel proposals for the 11th Annual Cultural Studies Association Meeting, May 23–26, 2013 at Columbia College, Chicago.

The Gamification of the Everyday
From business models to social networking, fitness to pedagogy, gamification has infiltrated almost any facet of everyday life. Many herald it as a paradigmatic shift in cultural strategy, while others dismiss it as a fleeting buzzword. Where did this impulse come from? How is gamification significant at this cultural moment and what can we stand to learn from it? Possible topics may include:

Consumer culture
Business and culture
Economic and political trends
Game as art/art as game
Emergent technologies
Social networks and communication
Analog gamification
Psychology and neuroscience of risk/reward
Imagined communities
Games and the classroom

Submit paper abstracts (maximum 250 words), A/V equipment requests (if needed) and a brief CV by February 1, 2013 to:
