XVII Iberian-American Conference on
High Education in Computer Science

The 17th Iberian-American Conference on High Education in Computer Science, CIESC 2009, invites educators and professionals to present and discuss work related to the following topics:
- Initiatives of high education in computer science (results from applying pedagogical approaches, tools and methods, new topics or specializations).
- High education problems and proposals to overcome them (motivation, college evasion, competition with the industry).
- Processes of accreditation of computer science colleges.
- Curricular projects in response to the skills required by the industry.
- Promotion and formation for entrepreneurship.
- Marketing technology degrees in high school.

This conference will be held with CLEI 2009, the Latin-American Conference in Informatics. Its activities include presentation and discussion of papers selected by the program committee, debates and panels on specific topics of interest.

Conference Venue
===========================
Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL) and Universidade Católica de Pelotas (UCPEL) are the organizers of CLEI 2009, while the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and the Latin-American Center for Studies in Informatics (CLEI) are its promoters. CLEI 2009 will be held in Pelotas, Brazil. Pelotas, at the extreme south of Brazil, is known as the Brazilian Capital of Desserts, where the visitors may appreciate a very rich historical and cultural inheritance and admire the wonderful Lagoa dos Patos, the second biggest lake of South America.

Call for Papers
===========================
Authors are invited to submit papers in English, Spanish or Portuguese to the following tracks.

* Full Papers on initiatives or projects and experience, including practical results, with a limit of 10 pages.
* Short Papers about on-going work, limited to 2 pages.

The papers must be submitted in PDF according to the following format:

Papers will be evaluated by three reviewers using the JEMS system. Authors must follow the instructions available at the conference webpage: http://www.sbc.org.br/clei2009
The selected papers will be published in CD-ROM and distributed to the participants.
Panel and Special Session proposals to discuss specific topics may be submitted through an abstract to the co-chairs. The abstract must include the topic and the purposes, as well as a mediator and an initial list of participants. The proposals must have at most one page and be sent to the co-chairs until June 19, 2009.
