Call for Big Data School Lectures

Big Data School of PAKDD 2013 is aimed to provide an educational platform for post-graduate students and young researchers in the areas of data mining, machine learning and analytics. It is a 3-day intensive course, hosted in Sydney from 10-12, April, 2013 immediately prior to the opening of the main conference (PAKDD 2013, http://pakdd2013.pakdd.org/) in Gold Coast. The program of this Big Data School covers 5 teaching modules and a discussion forum: Three modules in the first day, two modules in the second day,followed by Big Data Summit at the third day.

Tentative topics of the 5 teaching modules are:

*Module 1 -- Big data and computational challenges: An overview (2 hours, Wednesday morning)
*Module 2 -- Big data algorithms: Highlights of successful algorithms for coping with the 3V complexity of big data (2 hours, Wednesday morning)
*Module 3 -- large scale financial data and risk analysis: problems and algorithms (3 hours, Wednesday afternoon)
*Module 4 -- Social media: data acquisition, research problems, and data mining (4 hours, Thursday morning)
*Module 5 -- Biomedical data mining: Bioinformatics and Healthcare informatics (3 hours, Thursday afternoon)
We are calling for proposals for each of these teaching modules. Your proposal should contain: (i) A CV of 200-400 words, (ii) pre-requisites of the lecture, detailed teaching contents and materials (main points of teaching in two pages), number of slides, (iii) target audience, (iv) Audio and video equipment request.

We will provide AU$ 500-1000.00 as honorarium for the lecturer of successful application.
