CALL FOR PAPERS

Special Session on Intelligent Image Processing
held in conjunction with the
2012 Online Conference on Soft Computing in Industrial Applications (WSC17)

Anywhere on Earth, December 03-14, 2012

INTRODUCTION

Vision in general and images in particular have always played an essential role
in human life. In the past they were, today they are, and in the future they
will continue to be one of our most important information carriers. Recent
advances in digital imaging and computer hardware technology have led to an
explosion in the use of digital images in a variety of scientific and
engineering applications. These applications result from the interaction
between fundamental scientific research on the one hand, and the development of
new and high-standard technology on the other hand.

Since the early 1960s numerous techniques have been developed to address the
challenges in image processing. Among these, computational intelligence based
approaches have been shown to be effective, particularly when classical
solutions are difficult or impossible to formulate and analyze. The goal of
this special session is to bring together researchers and practitioners working
in the area of Intelligent Image Processing. We are soliciting original
contributions, which address a wide range of theoretical and practical issues
with the use of computational intelligence techniques such as:

* neural networks
* fuzzy logic
* rough sets
* metaheuristics (evolutionary algorithms, simulated annealing, tabu search
, ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization, harmony search,
bee colony optimization, etc.)
* expert systems
* hybrid approaches

in/for

* coding and compression
* sampling and interpolation
* quantization and halftoning
* quality assessment
* filtering and enhancement
* morphology
* edge detection and segmentation
* feature extraction
* indexing and retrieval

IMPORTANT DATES

* Submission of special session papers: November 7, 2012
* Acceptance/rejection notification: November 19, 2012
* Submission of revised papers and online presentations: November 25, 2012
* Submission of camera-ready papers for final review: January 13, 2013
