Calls for Papers (special): International Journal of Computer Vision and Image Processing (IJCVIP)
Special Issue On: Biometrics Imaging as Application Domain of Machine Learning Techniques Submission Due Date 12/1/2012 Guest Editors Dr. Ali Ismail Awad, Faculty of Engineering, Al Azhar University, Qena, Egypt Prof. Aboul Ella Hassanien, Faculty of Computers & Information, Cairo University, Egypt Introduction Biometrics technology provides a highly secure personal identification using unique physiological or characteristics. Biometrics deployments have several challenges with respect to image acquisition, image enhancement, feature extraction, images matching and classification. The dominant machine learning techniques such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Genetic Algorithms (GA) are basic notions in biometrics based image processing. Therefore, machine learning approaches achieve better results when tacking harder problems in biometrics imaging which will lead to higher identification accuracy and shorter processing time. Objective This special issue of the International Journal of Computer Vision and Image Processing (IJCVIP) covers the cutting edge and latest research on machine learning deployments over biometrics-related images. Machine learning deployments cover image acquisition, pre-processing and enhancement, feature extraction, image matching, and classification in almost all biometrics domains such as fingerprints, iris patter, retinal scan, signature, etc. The special issue solicits original, unpublished and full-length articles on new contributions (theoretical or practical) from researchers in the area of biometrics imaging as an application domain of machine learning techniques. Recommended Topics Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following: -Targeted biometrics domain applications: -Feature extraction and feature filtering -Image indexing, classification, and retrieval -Image matching and similarity detection -Image pre-processing, filtering, and enhancement -Image sensing and acquisition -Image watermarking and data hiding -Advanced machine learning technologies: -Artificial neural networks and fuzzy systems -Bayesian training and probabilistic models -Data analysis and dimensionality reduction approaches -Support vector machine and kernel substitution Submission Procedure Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue on Biometrics Imaging as Application Domain of Machine Learning Techniques on or before December 1, 2012. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/Files/AuthorEditor/guidelinessubmission.pdf. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations. Prospective authors should send their manuscripts electronically with the subject title: “Special Issue – IJCVIP” in PDF and Word formats (Microsoft Word 2003/2007/2010 versions). All submissions and inquiries should be directed to the attention of: Dr. Ali Ismail Awad Prof. Aboul Ella Hassanien Guest Editors E-mails: aawad@ieee.org; aboitcairo@gmail.com |
