Mobile Learning and Creativity Workshop (MLCW12): Fostering Creative Learning with Mobile Technologies

Prof. Dr. Ilona Buchem (Germany)
Prof. Dr. Isa Jahnke (Sweden)
Carl Smith (UK)

Mobile Learning and Creativity Workshop (MLCW12) is a full-day workshop devoted to sharing and designing innovative approaches and solutions aimed fostering creative learning with mobile technologies such as iPads, smartphones or other online surf plates".The workshop will take place on Wednesday, 19th September 2012 as part of the EC-TEL Conference 2012.

The workshop is looking for ideas, concepts and application related to the following question: How to design “learning to be creative” when the answer to the problem is not known? (Gerhard Fischer, 2011).

We invite students, educators, instructional designers, teachers, researchers, practitioners and developers to share and create innovative, creative mobile learning scenarios and applications utilizing multiple perspectives and collective intelligence of the participants.

Contributions

We invite different types of contributions ranging from work in progress, demonstrations and results from research and practice, academia and commerce. Authors are invited to submit original unpublished research as extended abstracts (max. 4 pages) by July 16th, 2012 via the EasyChair conference system.

Extended abstracts should include: theoretical perspective and definition of the creativity concept, e.g. collaborative creativity, social creativity, including the description of your understanding of creative learning, theoretical underpinnings of learning, including definition and context of learning (e.g. higher education, schools, workplace learning, informal learning), on which you build your contribution, the discussion about the role of the mobile technologies in supporting creative learning, research methods and empirical research results, if applicable.

Submission

Authors of accepted abstracts will be able to submit short (max. 6 pages) and full papers (max. 14 pages). Papers reviewed and selected by the Programme Committee will be published in the Special Issue of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning under the patronage of the London Mobile Learning Group. We will also strat a separate Call for Papers for the Special Issue of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning (more information coming soon).

Topics

There is an urgent need to rethink current design approaches to mobile learning with regard to creativity. With emerging jobs and requiring solutions that do not even exist yet, the key challenge is how to design “learning to be creative” when the answer to the problem is not yet known? The topics of interest include:

- Theories, pedagogies and models for creative learning and enhancing creative skills
- Learning design approaches to enhancing creative learning including design patterns
- Media-/didactical designs enhanced by mobile devices
- Development methodologies for creative mobile learning
- Innovative mobile applications and tools for fostering creative learning
- Innovative mobile user interfaces for creativity including concepts and products
- User stories, case studies and evaluations of creative mobile learning
- Future visions for creative mobile learning including frameworks and methodologies
