Call For Papers

Conference Announcement and Call for Exhibits
PSYCHEDEMIA: conference integrating psychedelic experiences in academia.
September 27th-30th, 2012
The University of Pennsylvania,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Visionaries, professionals, and academics from across the sciences, cultural studies, medicine, visual arts, and music are invited to the University of Pennsylvania for the first ever Psychedemia: a conference integrating psychedelic experiences in academia.

Psychedemia will coalesce decades of interdisciplinary research, millennia of human history, and the cutting edges of visionary arts and ideas to illuminate the place of psychedelics in human evolution and formal academic exploration. The organizers and supporters of this conference seek to promote a progressive and informed conversation about psychedelic experiences and how they can be integrated into the human experience.

Psychedemia is a conference dedicated to opening an informed and progressive discussion about how to responsibly and effectively integrate into academic and mainstream culture the recent renaissance of academic research into psychedelic experiences. The purpose of Psychedemia is to bring together researchers from across disciplines to present their research and to discuss ethical considerations and cultural ramifications in moving forward with the growing field of psychedelic studies. It is the hope of the conference organizers that this meeting will promote the development of a community of psychedelic researchers."

We are calling for abstracts across disciplines for presentations of current research in psychedelic studies that promote knowledge, discourse, and vision in regard to psychedelic experiences. Posters and exhibits will be included in an interactive session in which researchers and academics will be able to share their projects with their peers and other conference-goers. Exhibits should present research or artwork in a concise, elegant, and unique manner.

We are especially encouraging presentations by young people in psychedelic studies – particularly students involved in graduate programs. We encourage all faculty to promote this call for abstracts to graduate students performing pertinent research.

Please submit a 300-word abstract and 300-word biosketch by June 30. Academic posters will be approximately 6’ x 4’. As an alternative to traditional poster format, we encourage you to be creative as you present your academic work in the field of psychedelic or consciousness studies. For more artistic exhibitions, floor space will be approximately 6’ x 4’.

Thank You.
