Call for Papers:
The First International Workshop on Advanced Communication Technologies and Applications to Intelligent transportation systems, Cognitive radios and Sensor networks 2012 (ACTICS-2012) will be held in in conjunction with International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing (IMIS) 2012, July 4-th to July 6-th, 2012, Sanpaolo Palace Hotel, Palermo, Italy. Wired and wireless technologies and applications have become popular in recent years and have received wide deployments in all areas of our life. Recent advancement are dramatically increasing in the areas of vehicular communications for intelligent transportation systems, cognitive radio network (CRN) for dynamic and efficient spectrum sharing, and sensor networks for sensing and monitoring applications. Vehicular communications for intelligent transportation system are expected to implement variety of wired and wireless technologies to provide safety as well as comfort for passengers and to make more efficient roads in the future by providing timely information to drivers and concerned authorities. Advancement in CRN will allow unlicensed users to co-exist and use licensed spectrum seamlessly without interfering licensed users thus relieving the congestion in unlicensed spectrum and using the licensed spectrum effectively. Sensors and sensor network's potential usage is diverse but the main focus is in areas such as security, health, energy, food safety, environment monitoring and improving quality of all areas of life. The purpose of ACTICS is to serve as a forum for researchers from academia, industries, professionals, standard developers, students and practitioners to exchange ideas, present new research results and explore new research directions in advanced communication technologies and their applications. Topics of interest include but not limited to: Network architectures and protocols Mobility management and topology control Performance modeling and analysis Medium access control and routing protocols Information aggregation and dissemination CR enhanced Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Roadside (V2R) communications, Challenges of V2V and V2R wireless communications Trust, security and privacy issues Encryption algorithm in sensor networks Applications, case studies, and real-world test beds Heterogeneous networking Power aware and energy efficient design Remote sensing and monitoring (health care, space structure, environments, hazards etc.) Complexity analysis, self-organization/configuration, distributed co-ordination etc. Application of software defined radiin advanced communication systems Cross-layer designs and architectures Self-organizing networks and autonomic communications Ultra-wideband for spectrum sharing Beam-forming and MIMO for interference avoidance in the CR context Biological-inspired networking Adaptive wireless communication systems Spectrum sensing techniques, spectrum efficiency and soft spectrum usage Parameter estimation for adaptation of wireless communication systems Femto-cells and Cognitive Radios Networks Spectrum, network, context, environment, location awareness New applications in TV-band white space Interference mitigation and awareness Spectrum-management regulation and policy making Game theory based protocols and algorithms Standardization, such as IEEE 802.22, 802.19, 802.11n, 802.11p, etc Submission The authors are advised to submit their research paper following the Conference Publishing Service Manuscripts style: two columns, single-spaced, including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and number each page. Instructions for authors how to format the manuscript can be found at: http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/ The papers should be 6 pages long. They will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. The papers, in pdf format, should be submitted electronically through http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=actics2012. If there is any problem during submission, please contact the workshop chairs. Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance. Proceedings of the workshop along with the IMIS-2011 will be published by Conference Publishing Service (CPS), will be included in Digital Library and will be indexed by most of the indexing systems.
