Multimedia Tools and Applications Special issue on ‘Ubiquitous Visual Surveillance for Public Security’

Call for Paper

With the increasing sophistication and diversity of threats of crime and terrorism to public security, it is critical for the research community to develop and deploy reliable, secure, and efficient visual surveillance applications in smart cities (the focus of the special issue). When designing the next generation security solutions, we need to consider and integrate existing technological trends. For example, the convergence of cloud computing and smart networked cameras is vital for developing such intelligent surveillance systems.
This special issue will serve as a platform to publish state-of-the-art advancements in this domain of research. Particular topics of interest which fall under the scope of the special issue are:

• Summarization of long surveillance videos
• Emotion / Gesture / Activity Recognition and prediction
• Recognition of human at large distance in low resolution videos
• Person Re-identification and biometric recognition
• Special processing of low light surveillance videos
• Crowd behavior analysis
• Performance Analysis of social surveillance systems
• Visual analytics for forensics and security applications
• Standardization of surveillance systems
• Cloud and distributed computing for visual surveillance
• Ubiquitous computing and smart multi-camera network architecture for surveillance
• Application-oriented indoor or outdoor surveillance system design
• Pedestrian and vehicle navigation tracking through videos
• Surveillance through Aerial / Under-water Unmanned Automated Vehicles (UAVs)
