CALL FOR PAPERS

Workshop UP-TO-US: User-Centric Personalized TV ubiquitOus and secUre Services

July 4th, 2012
Berlin, Germany

http://www.euroitv2012.org/program/workshops/u2u/

Held in con-junction with the 10th EuroiTV 2012 Conference.

**** Paper Registration Deadline --- May 5th, 2012 ****

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
--------------------
The advances in digital TV technology enable a new model for service
provisioning, moving from traditional broadcaster-centric TV services to
a new user-centric TV model. This new model will allow users not only to
access new services and functionalities from their providers, based upon
their profiles and contexts, but also to become active parts in the
content personalization through contributing in building their dynamic
profiles. This TV model is promising in allowing enriched TV smart and
targeting services for end-users (while enhancing users’ interaction
with the IPTV system and the Quality of Experience (QoE) which in turn
increases users’ satisfaction and services acceptability) and a revenue
system for broadcasters based on personalized advertising methods, as
well as new business opportunities for network operators and service
providers. Advanced and enriched content personalization is still in its
infancy lacking the real-time consideration of each user context and the
context of his environments (network and devices) while preserving
users’ privacy.

UP-TO-US workshop will be held in con-junction with EuroiTV 2012
conference (on July 4^th 2012 in Berlin, Germany)
http://www.euroitv2012.org/program/workshops/and aims at bringing
together academia and industry to present and discuss the recent
advances and novel aspects of technology including network
architectures, services platforms, and user equipments to help creating
pathways for the development of solutions for TV services
personalization over different TV systems.

The workshop will include a keynote session, a session for an invited
presentation on the Celtic UP-TO-US European project, two sessions for
selected papers presentation, and a brainstorming/panel discussion
session that would end the workshop .

The solicited topics for presentation and exchange in the workshop include:

-Architectures and protocols for personalized TV services management and delivery.
-Advanced technologies for TV personalization including context-awareness, content
recommendation and content adaptation.
-Quality of Experience (QoE) management.
-Use-cases and business models for actors in the digital TV delivery chain
-Monetization of content and possible business models among different actors.
-Traffic optimization techniques including Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)
-Content-centric networking: caching, distribution, load balancing.
-Enhanced nomadic services access as well as services continuity.
-User profile management.
-Privacy management.

WORKSHOP PROGRAM

9:30 - 9:45 Workshop Opening
9:45 - 10:30 Keynote speech related to the workshop subject
10:30 - 12:00 Morning session for the selected papers
12:00 - 13:00 Lunch Break

17:15 Workshop wrap-up

The workshop aims to discuss the different contributions from academia
and industry on enriched TV personalization through two sessions for
selected papers to be published in the workshop proceedings. A keynote
session is also planned at the beginning of the workshop by an expert on
the domain aiming to highlight the different technical challenges for TV
personalization and the possible ways to resolve them.A presentation
will be also given on the ongoing Celtic project (UP-TO-US project)
which focuses on the problem of enriched IPTV services personalization
and thus aiming to disseminate among the participants the different
works done and discuss the possible exchange with other projects in
Europe working in related subjects. A Brainstorming Session (or a sort
of Panel Discussion) is also planned to allow more interaction and
exchange among the participants, where a Poster could be developed at
the end of the session summarizing the different exchange. To stimulate
the interaction among the participants, the PAPSA (Perception, Analyze,
Production, Selection, Application) method is a good candidate method
with also a possibility of creating two focus groups amongthe
participants (depending on the number of participants) making an
exchange intra-group first then inter-group.
