Embedded systems are increasingly taking advantage of the
opportunities afforded by ubiquitous connectivity and networks to offer new and original functions and solutions. Together with the hard real-time constraints often associated with these applications, the design of embedded systems requires the development of efficient platforms supported by innovative technologies, methodologies and algorithms. This Special Section on "Real-Time and (Networked) Embedded Systems" aims at presenting some of the most significant research works representing the state-of-the-art in the area of the embedded and real-time systems for automation systems. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: * TECHNOLOGY IN REAL-TIME AND (NETWORKED) EMBEDDED SYSTEMS: including real-time computing and operating systems; real-time communications; networked embedded systems technology; wireless sensor networks; sensor technology; cyber physical systems. * DESIGN AND METHODS IN REAL-TIME AND (NETWORKED) EMBEDDED SYSTEMS: including design and Implementation; design methodologies and tools; models of computation and formal methods; hardware/software co-design. * COMPONENTS AND PLATFORMS IN REAL-TIME AND (NETWORKED) EMBEDDED SYSTEMS: including IP cores and platforms; system on chip and architectures; languages. * ALGORITHMS AND CONTROL IN REAL-TIME AND (NETWORKED) EMBEDDED SYSTEMS: including power supply and management; data integration and fusion; communication modes; quality of service control. Submissions to this Special Section must represent original material that has been neither submitted to, nor published in, any other journal. Extended versions of papers previously published in conference proceedings, digests or preprints may be eligible for consideration, provided that the authors inform the Special Section Guest Editors at the time of submission. All contributions must focus on real-time and (networked) embedded systems. Results obtained by simulations must be validated in bounds by experiments or analytical results. |
