Workshop on Advances in Intelligent Environmental Monitoring (AIEM'14) ======================================================================= Under the framework of The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES'14) will be held on 15-17 September 2014, in Al Qassem - Saudi Arabia. http://sigappfr.acm.org/MEDES/14/ =========================================== ======================== = General Information = ======================== In this day and age, environmental changes can be caused by either natural disaster; such as floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, etc., or by human related factors and practices; such as industrial pollution and urban development. Whatever the cause of environmental changes, the result may not only be in the loss of life and property in the short term, but also environmental degradation in the long term. To conserve our environment, it is essential to effectively monitor environmental changes; such as variations in the conditions, patterns, and dynamics of air, water, and land resources. Developing low cost intelligent sensor-network based monitoring systems, enables collecting and processing environmental data into information that can be used for management and planning as well as prediction and recovery. The objective of this workshop is to provide a scientific forum gathering people with different backgrounds in at least one of the areas relevant to this new multidisciplinary field of research; namely academia, researchers, and industry partners, for discussing the recent advances in sensors for environmental variables, wireless sensor networks, environmental data processing, robotics, etc. ====================== = Topics of Interest = ====================== Submissions are invited in, but not limited to, the following areas: • Wireless Sensor Networks for environmental monitoring • Water quality monitoring • Air quality and climate monitoring • Soil quality monitoring • Food quality monitoring • Aquatic and coastal environments monitoring • Remote sensing and GIS • Environmental image processing and data analysis • Decision support systems for environmental monitoring • Recommender systems for environmental monitoring • Energy and Security constraints in environmental monitoring networks • Ubiquitous and context-aware computing • Intelligent user interfaces • Computational intelligence applications in environmental monitoring • Data-driven modelling and optimization techniques • Remote sensing and sensor technologies • GIS and GPS environmental monitoring • Knowledge, metadata, and data management • Model interoperability and standardization • Web-based applications and environmental maps • Natural disasters forcasting systems (floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides) • Early Warning Systems • Disaster mitigation • Robotics ========================= = Submission Guidelines = ========================= -Submissions must be in an electronic form as PDF format and should be uploaded using the conference website. -The submitted paper should be at most 8 ACM single-space printed pages. -MS Word and Latex templates to generate your PDF can be downloaded from: (http://sigappfr.acm.org/MEDES/14/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14&Itemid=14) -Papers that fail to comply with length limit will be rejected. -Submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 peer reviewers. -After the preliminary notification date, authors rebut by evidence and arguments all reviewer inquiries and their comments. -Based on the rebuttal feedback, reviewers notify authors with the final decision. -Selection criteria will include: relevance, significance, impact, originality, technical soundness, and quality of presentation. -Preference will be given to submissions that take strong or challenging positions on important emergent topics related to Digital Ecosystems. -At least one author should attend the conference to present the paper. -The conference Proceedings will be published by ACM and indexed by the ACM Digital Library and DBLP. -Paper submission is available online via: EasyChair for MEDES 2014 website (https://www.easychair.org/account/signin.cgi?conf=medes2014). =================== = Important Dates = =================== Submission Deadline: 28 May 2014 Notification of Acceptance: 13 July 2014 Camera-Ready Submission Deadline: 07 August 2014 Workshop Dates: 15-17 September 2014 ======================= = Workshop Organizers = ======================= Nashwa El-Bendary Chair of Intelligent Environments and Applications (IEA) Track, (SRGE) Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport Cairo, Egypt nashwa.elbendary@ieee.org Aboul Ella Hassanien Chair of the Scientific Research Group in Egypt (SRGE) Information Technology Dept., Faculty of Computers and Information Cairo University Cairo, Egypt Abo@egyptscience.net ================================================================== ================================================================== |
