Call for Participation

Graphical visualization is an efficient way to present specific information about a large amount of data. Sometimes the act of expanding the view of underlying or superordinate information creates images which can be strikingly beautiful. If you have produced such an image recently during your research you are welcome to participate in INSIGHT 2014! The data will be presented in an exhibition hosted at UMIT, shared with a broader public and judged based on both its aesthetic qualities and ability to communicate information effectively.

What can be submitted?

Visualizations (no photographic images) that have been created by the reasearchers themselves and are linked to their (scientific) work. The data represantions should be visually appealing and reveal information contained in the underlying data. The images may be submitted in any common electronic image format (min 750x750 pixels), common vector graphics are desirable.

Why should one participate?

Insight 2014 offers researchers the opportunity to present their work to a broader public and show how fascinating their work can be. The net income generated by the sale of the images on exhibition, are of benefit to a charitable purpose. In addition, the author of every accepted image has the chance to win one out of two awards. The images are judged based on both their aesthetic qualities and their ability to communicate information effectively.

How to submit?

Please send an e-mail to insight2014@umit.at no later than 15 Dec 2013. The following points must be included in the e-mail:

• Name and contact information of the creator
• Date of creation
• Title of the image
• Description of technical or scientific background (about 5 sentences)
• Associated publication (file or link, optional)
• Image file in any common electronic image format (vector graphics desirable)

After acceptance of your image

When your submission is accepted, you will have the opportunity to revise your image and description, if necessary. The images are then printed on canvas, acrylic or aluminum Dibond and presented in an exhibition hosted at UMIT. The vernissage will take place on 20 March 2014. The exhibited images can be purchased by interested visitors, with the net proceeds provided to a charitable purpose. The presentation of an image is not dependent on the presence of the creator.

Awards

Two prices will be awarded:

• Insight-Award for the most insightful Visualization 2014 (awarding by Committee)
• Insight-Award for the most aesthetic Visualization 2014 (choice of exhibition visitors)
