Call For Papers

OVERVIEW/SCOPE
**************
ICSM is the premier international venue in software maintenance and
evolution, where participants from academia, government, and industry
share ideas and experiences for solving critical software maintenance
problems.

ICSM 2011 will be held at the Williamsburg Lodge, in the heart of
Colonial Williamsburg, VA, USA. Williamsburg, once the capital of
England's oldest, wealthiest, and most populous North American colony,
is one of the most important American historical landmarks.

We invite high quality submissions to all conference tracks. All
submissions must be in English. All papers must conform, at time of
submission to the IEEE conference publication format and must not
exceed the number of pages indicated by each track, including all
text, references, appendices, and figures. Submissions must be in PDF
format and must be submitted electronically via EasyChair. Submitted
papers must not have been previously accepted for publication nor
concurrently submitted for review in another journal, book, or
conference. Accepted papers from all tracks will be published in the
ICSM proceedings and the IEEE Digital Library.

RESEARCH TRACK
**************
Research papers should describe original and significant work in the
research and practice of software maintenance and evolution. Case
studies, empirical research, and experiments are welcome. Research
papers are limited to 10 pages.

Selected papers from this track will be invited to be in a special
issue of the Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution, Research
and Practice (JSME).

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- reverse engineering and re-engineering
- static and dynamic analysis
- software migration and renovation
- maintenance and evolution process
- program and system comprehension
- concept, feature and aspect location
- mining software repositories
- clone, similarity and reuse analysis
- empirical studies in software maintenance and evolution
- testing, only in relation to maintenance (e.g., regression testing)

EARLY RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS TRACK
*********************************
The goal of the Early Research Achievements (ERA) track is to provide
research and practitioners with a forum for presenting great ideas in
early stages of research. The proposed ideas and promising work
submitted to this track do not require to have been fully developed or
empirically evaluated. The topics of interest for this track are the
same as the main research track and concern all the topics in the
research and practice of software maintenance and evolution.
Participants will have the opportunity to present a summary of their
work in form of a short paper and of a poster. The ICSM 2011 ERA
track accepts only short papers (4 pages).

*Important Dates*
Abstracts: 20 June, 2011
Submissions: 25 June, 2011
Notification: 26 July, 2011
Camera Ready: 8 August, 2011

TOOL DEMONSTRATIONS
*******************
We invite proposals for tool demonstrations on any topic related to
software maintenance and evolution. Demonstrations will be in an open
session to allow individual interaction with the participants. Tool
demo papers are limited to 4 pages.

*Important Dates*
Submissions: 25 June, 2011
Notification: 26 July, 2011
Camera Ready: 8 August, 2011

DOCTORAL SYMPOSIUM

students. For the former category, we target researchers who delivered
their Ph.D. dissertation in the field of software maintenance and
evolution within the last 2 years (2010-2011). For the latter category
, we will dedicate part of the symposium exclusively to Ph.D. students
who intend to finish their Ph.D. in two years time (2012 - 2013). The
