IMAGINE 2009 is a workshop to be held in conjunction with a major conference on Algorithms, possibly applied to wireless networks and dynamic environment.
The particularities of IMAGINE are the followings: * Speakers and PC members are only junior researchers, i.e. current PhD students or doctors who have defended their PhD project for no more than 2 years but the audience is of course not restrictive. * The technical program committee is exclusively composed of junior researchers. * Its role is to select some junior researchers in the fields dealing with areas of distributed networks (see below). * The selected researchers will be invited to present their work during the workshop. Top Mobile computing and communication devices will have an enormous impact on our lifestyle over the next several decades. Wireless connectivity with mobility support is an important enabling technology for pervasive computing and communications. The emergence of multi-hop wireless networks raises a number of interesting, and difficult theoretical and algorithmic issues and will play a key role in the development and progress of these emerging paradigms. Thus, studying dynamic networks (e.g., wireless ad hoc and sensor networks) implies studying mobility, algorithms and graph theory in order to provide reliable and generic theoretical models. To improve such models, researchers in the field of ad hoc wireless networks need to understand many tools like graph theory, graph decomposition, stochastic geometry, mobility models derived from social graphs area, etc. Conversely, researchers working in the field of graph theory have developed several tools, like efficient distributed algorithms and useful graph decompositions or embeddings, for which dynamic and ad hoc wireless networks studies offer a wide field of applications. Unfortunately, nowadays, most of the researchers studying these fields work independently of what is done in other research areas. Wireless dynamic networks as well as graph theory need the meeting of different communities from research areas susceptible to bring new tools to be improved. Therefore, IMAGINE wants to gather junior researchers in order to promote pluridisciplinarity in the field of dynamic networks. For this purpose, this workshop wants to promote surveys done by junior researchers about their own works. Top IMAGINE pursues several goals : * It aims at letting junior researchers around the world know each other and to have a larger view of the recent results of their peers, in order to favor future collaboration. * It aims at gathering junior researchers working on tools which may all be useful for studying dynamic wireless networks even if studied independently and, by this way, contributing to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and conference events. * It aims at providing a supportive setting for feedback on junior researchers' current research and guidance on future research directions. * It aims at offering each junior researcher comments and fresh perspectives on their work from peers outside their own institution. * It aims at promoting the development of a supportive community of scholars and a spirit of collaborative research. |
