Call for Papers
Slavic-NLP: The 11th Workshop on NLP for Slavic languages co-located with EACL 2027, Athens, Greece 9–14 March 2027 (workshop date TBD) https://bsnlp.cs.helsinki.fi/ Submission Deadline: 9 January 2027 WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION The 11th edition of the Slavic-NLP Workshop at EACL 2027 Sponsored by SIGSLAV: The ACL Special Interest Group on Slavic NLP Slavic languages play a crucial role in Natural Language Processing (NLP) due to their diverse cultural heritage and wide use — over 400M speakers worldwide. The current political and economic developments in Central/ Eastern Europe have brought Slavic societies and their languages into focus, due to rapid technological advancement and expanding consumer markets. Research on applied and theoretical NLP in the context of Slavic languages is still lagging. Linguistic phenomena common to the Slavic languages — rich morphology, free word order, etc. — make NLP for these languages challenging. Slavic-NLP Workshops gather researchers from academia and industry, aiming to stimulate research in Slavic NLP and foster the creation of tools and resources. This Workshop provides a forum for exchange of ideas and experience, discussing current challenges and promoting available resources. The structural similarity, as well as the easily recognizable core vocabulary and inflectional inventory spanning this large language group, creates a special environment where researchers can appreciate shared problems and communicate naturally. We are happy to organize Slavic-NLP again in Central Europe. This Workshop addresses Natural Language Processing (NLP) for the Slavic languages. Relevant topics include: morphological analysis and generation, morphosyntactic tagging, syntactic and semantic parsing, lexical semantics, named-entity recognition, text normalisation and processing non-standard language coreference resolution, information extraction, question answering, information retrieval, text summarization, machine translation, development of linguistic resources, development and assessment of large language models, disinformation detection, fact verification, text classification, text generation, sentiment analysis. This Workshop continues the proud tradition established by the 10 previous Slavic NLP and Balto-Slavic NLP Workshops. IMPORTANT DATES Direct paper submission deadline: 9 January 2027 Shared Task system papers deadline: 13 January 2027 Pre-reviewed ARR commitment deadline: 16 January 2027 Notification of acceptance: 23 January 2027 Camera-ready papers due: 30 January 2027 SHARED TASKS PRESENTATION MODE: Participants who submit a shared task system description paper will be able to present either in person or remotely. TASKS: Slavic NLP 2027 features two shared tasks, one on Detection and Classification of Persuasion Techniques and one on Disinformation Detection. The workshop also hosts the PolEval campaign, organised independently. Persuasion Techniques Detection & Classification covers sentence-level detection and classification in Bulgarian, Polish and Russian (to be extended), using a taxonomy of 25 persuasion techniques and covering parliamentary debates and disinformation-related social media posts. Disinformation Detection focuses on binary classification of texts as disinformation vs. non-disinformation in Polish, English and surprise Slavic languages for test data. PolEval is the long-running Polish language evaluation campaign. PolEval winners will present their system papers at Slavic-NLP. Information about the Shared Tasks is available on the web page at https://slavicnlp.github.io/ SUBMISSION At the Workshop’s Web page: bsnlp.cs.helsinki.fi Workshop contact: bsnlp@cs.helsinki.fi |
