Thematic Issue on Context Aware Systems
Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments (JAISE) Indexed in JCR with impact factor of 1.5 SCOPE This thematic issue addresses context aware systems that enable ambient intelligence within smart environments and solicits contributions on recent developments and experiments within real-world spaces as well as simulated environments. Context aware systems reduce the burden of excessive user involvement and provide proactive intelligent assistance to the users of enabled smart environments and devices. These systems promise to provide a seamless interface between complex technology and their users. However, to realise this goal, context aware systems must overcome significant challenges, not least, how to abstract and model the real world? How to deal with highly dynamic environments and changing user requirements? How to cope with users co-operating in groups? How to deal with distributed and ad-hoc systems? How to securely observe and record human activity? How do users productively interact with these systems, without inhibition? The particular focus of this thematic issue is on context aware developments, methodologies, case studies and testing within a range of smart environments such as homes offices, hotels, restaurants, shops, hospitals, teaching-rooms, manufacturing environments, cars, trains, aircraft, boats, cities and public spaces. Areas covered by this special issue include but are not restricted to: -Context information gathering and data management -Frameworks and architectures for context-aware systems -Context reasoning -Context modelling and representation -Context learning and prediction techniques -Context-based resource, information, and service provisioning -Infrastructures for proactive systems -Context aware applications -Context-aware and intelligent networking including context-aware mobile and smart information systems -Database and knowledge management issues in context-aware systems -Knowledge engineering and ontologies for context aware systems -Autonomous agents and agent-based systems -Cognitive modelling for contextual awareness -Context-Aware Services and Systems -Human-computer interaction and human-decision making within context aware environments -Intelligent user interfaces and end user programming -Ubiquitous Computing SUBMISSION Papers should be of 12 pages or longer and adhere to the guidelines given on the Web page: http://www.mstracker.com/submit1.php?jc=jaise When submitting, authors should highlight that the submission is for this particular special issue.
