RFID technology is often considered as a disruptive (Vail and Agarwal, 2007; Park, 2007) wireless Automatic Identification and Data Capture technology (Fosso Wamba et al., 2008). It is emerging as the next wave of IOS that can transform supply chain management practices (Srivastava, 2004; Curtin et al., 2007). While the potential of RFID technology is obviously high in terms of operational performance optimization, some key theoretical and managerial questions remain (Curtin et al., 2007).
For example: How should an appropriate business case be constructed?
What is the impact on the firm when RFID is used with only a portion of one’s trading partners? Will RFID have similar impacts inside and outside an organization?
In the same light, it is worth knowing what considerations are to be taken into account at the extended enterprise network level and at the industry’s level. Moreover, one may ask how RFID and real-time decision-making will change managerial and organizational capabilities, etc. (Curtin et al., 2007). In contributing to this debate, this mini track aims to provide some answers by focusing on papers dealing with RFID applications, RFID in supply chain management using modeling and simulation in order to assess the business impacts of the technology.

Suggested topics, but are not limited to:

•Business process modeling & simulation, business process redesign and RFID technology
•Modeling and simulation of the impact of RFID technology on quality management
•Modeling and simulation of the costs and risks associated with RFID deployment in one organization and network level
•Modeling and simulation of the impact of RFID technology on operations management
•Modeling and simulation of the return on investment for RFID applications
•Modeling and simulation of the business value of the RFID technology
•Modeling and simulation of financial, managerial, leadership, and human resources required for RFID projects
•Modeling and simulation of innovative RFID-enabled applications
