Call For Papers

With the fast development of Internet and other new technologies, different types of networks, paradigms and platforms of distributed computation are emerging as new forms of the computation in the new millennium. Among these paradigms and technologies, Grid, P2P and network ad-hoc systems are most important. One of the main targets behind these technologies and paradigms is, from the scientific perspective, to enable the solution of very complex problems of the denominated family of eScience problems that arise in different branches of science, engineering and industry.

An important line of research in this context is the simulation and modeling. Simulation is an essential tool in these new computational systems in order to implement and evaluate different algorithms, resolution techniques and applications before deployment in a real system. Simulation and modelling allow thus to conceive, develop and analyze in a controlled and economic way application prototypes that can be later deployed in real environments.

The aim of this workshop is to present innovative researches, methods and techniques related to Simulation, Modelling and Performance Evaluation in Emergent Computational Systems. The workshop seeks original contributions in all relevant areas, including but not limited to the following topics.
Topics of interest

o Simulation models and tools for Grid, P2P systems
o Simulation and tools for Adhoc and Mobile Network systems
o Simulation models for Vehicular Networking Systems
o Performance modelling and evaluation in Emergent Computational Systems
o Novel theoretical approaches for simulation and modelling in Emergent Computational Systems
o Novel design approaches for simulation and modelling in Emergent Computational Systems
o Benchmarking
o Case studies using simulation platforms/libraries for evaluating applications in Emergent Computational Systems

Important Dates

o Paper Submisison: April 20th, 2009
o Author Notification: May 19, 2009
o Final Manuscript Due: June 28, 2009

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit research and application papers following the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns, single-spaced, including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and number each page.

You can confirm the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Author Guidelines at one of the following web pages:

+ or http://www.tinmith.net/tabletop2006/IEEE/Format/instruct.htm

The papers should be 6 pages long. They will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition.
The papers should be submitted by email to the Workshop Co-Chairs.
( fatos at lsi.upc.edu and barolli at fit.ac.jp )

Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance.

Proceedings of the Workshops will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press. Based on quality and referee reviews, the best papers selected by SMECS-2009 program committee out of papers accepted for presentation at SMECS-2009 will be further published in some International Journal.
