Call For Papers

As the world population is expected to grow by almost a 1/3rd of the current population in three decades, the food production rate must be increased by almost 70% to meet the rising demands of the population according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In addition to the increasing demands, the patterns of consumptions are changing (e.g., there is a considerable increase in demand for meat protein in emerging markets and less processed food in the western world) and consumers’ health issues and chronic disease are playing a bigger role in consumption patterns. Coupled with climate change and global warming, these factors contribute to increased competition and exploitation of natural resources such as land and water. The scale of these issues is beyond what the traditional agriculture and food systems can handle. Thus, there is an imminent need for innovative paradigms for agriculture and food technologies (AgriFoodTech).

The recent developments in fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data (BD) and Internet of Things (IoT) allowed researchers and practitioners from the academia as well as the industry to propose and implement new smart agriculture and food processing technologies. In 2017, the agriculture and food industry was valued at $7.8 trillion. This industry is evolving with several enterprises, including numerous startups, are developing novel IoT-based BD-driven solutions for this very important domain. In addition to efficiency and effectiveness, such solutions are expected to be reliable, feasible and capable of dealing with the increasing security and privacy concerns due to the introduction of sensors, BD and AI into the conventional agriculture and food systems.

This event aims to bring experts from the agriculture and food sectors together with experts from IoT, Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), BD, AI, Robotics and smart applications domains to develop synergy and exchange ideas in order to ensure smart agriculture and food systems with the desired properties. This workshop is envisioned as a premier platform for research on data-driven AI-supported applications in the AgriFoodTech domain.

Topics included, but not limited to:

· Novel AI-supported smart farming systems.

· Cooperative farming solutions.

· Smart monitoring and management systems for AgriFoodTech.

· Agriculture and aquaculture systems: raising crops, livestock, and seafood.

· Post-harvest solutions.

· Food supply chains.

· Greener AgriFoodTech systems.

· Irrigation and water management systems.

· Waste management and recycling solutions.

· (Big) data driven AgriFoodTech applications.

· ML-enabled predictive and analytic solutions for AgriFoodTech.

· AgriFoodTech Ontologies and knowledge representation.

· IoT networking and infrastructure solutions in smart farms.

· Aerial drones, autonomous vehicles and collaborative processing of remote and proximity sensor data in farms.

· Cloud and edge assisted applications for AgriFoodTech.

· Security and privacy of AgriFoodTech systems.

The symposium seeks papers with conceptual and theoretical contributions, proposed solutions and simulations, and real life implementations and case studies
