Introduction

This workshop focuses on how to model, detect and recognise events using sparsity analysis and the applications that make use of sparse learning for event analysis in the context of multimedia data. We target at bringing together researchers who are interested in understanding the concept of semantic events. We particularly welcome original work in the areas of semantic event modelling, detection of events from multimedia data, processing of events using sparsity analysis and applications in these areas. Potential submissions should explicitly explain how the contributions handle the events of the concerned areas and what kind of benefits is supplied to the users by using sparse analysis techniques. Possible application areas for events are multimedia-based surveillance, experience sharing, cultural heritage, news, sports, and Internets.

Topics

Research topics of interest for this workshop include, but are not limited to:

 Sparse representation for event search and retrieval
 Sparse learning in motion trajectory analysis
 Object detection and tracking using sparse inference
 Sparse representation for crowd behaviour analysis
 Occlusions and segmentation errors handling
 Sparse representation for 2D/3D articulated human body modelling
 Sparsity analysis for modelling and learning object behaviours
 Sparse interpretations of object behaviours

Paper submission

Submissions for the workshop must follow the guidelines provided at http://www.acmmm11.org/content-workshop-papers-formatting-guidelines.html. They shall be submitted in PDF format and not be longer than 6 pages. In submitting a manuscript to this workshop, the authors acknowledge that no paper substantially similar in content has been submitted to another workshop, conference, or journal. Each submitted paper will be reviewed independently by at least three reviewers from the program committee and external reviewers. Details of the workshop can be found: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/zhang/SRED11/
