The vision of ambient intelligence promotes a paradigm where our environments are technologically augmented with myriad sensors and communicating devices making them sensitive to the presence of people and responsive to serve their needs. The cornerstone of such environment is the availability of vast amount of multimedia data that are generated based on the multimodal sensors and processed to identify the needs of the residents. Multimedia data are also contributed and shared by the residents to enhance their experience in the environment. Thus, an ambient intelligence environment truly transforms into a multimedia and sensory environment, where new breeds of applications emerge and new forms of interactions become a possibility.
The proliferation of multimedia, sensors, and other pervasive devices and services for realizing ambient intelligence environment has brought many challenges that are the core focus of this workshop. More specifically, this workshop aims to report on state-of-the-art techniques, methodologies and systems that help to realize ambient multimedia and sensory environment. We seek high quality papers that were not published elsewhere and have scientific values relevant to several topics of interest including, but not limited to, the following: - Smart environment modeling and development - Situation awareness in ambient multimedia environment - Entertainment and multimedia presentation in ambient environment - Modeling context and quality of context - Multi-modal human-centric interaction and personalization - Intelligibility and control in complex ambient environment - Middleware and systems for ambient environment - Ambient device, service discovery, selection and composition - Rapid prototyping of AMUSE - Smart device communication, coordination and configuration - Sensor data collection, processing, and visualization - Architectural support for multimedia and sensory environment - Ambient intelligence environments for education and healthcare - Emerging cloud computing for ambient sensory environment - Environment to environment multimedia communication - Service discovery and recommendation in ambient environment - Assisted living environment for elderly and vulnerable [Paper submission] Papers submitted to AMUSE workshop must not have been previously published and must not be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are invited to submit a full paper (two-column format, up to 6 pages, including figures and tables) according to the guidelines available on the conference website at: http://www.icme2014.org/author-guidelines. Reviewing will be double blind. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Papers will be reviewed with an emphasis on potential to contribute to the state-of-the-art in the field. Each paper will receive at least two reviews. Selection criteria include accuracy and originality of ideas, clarity and significance of results, and presentation quality. All papers accepted will appear in the workshops proceedings which and will be included in the IEEE Digital Library.
