Overview
============================================================

The 1st International Workshop on Machine Learning and Semantic Web Technologies will be held as
part of the 2-nd International Conference on Emerging Intelligent Data and Web Technologies. The
primary goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested the
interdisciplinary research on Machine Learning and Semantic Web Technologies. The workshop is
conceived to provide a meeting point for the related communities to stimulate collaboration and
enable cross-fertilization of ideas.

The Semantic Web is often perceived to be a global, distributed database of meaningfully represented
data. The heterogeneity of these resources and inherently open, distributed, and incomplete nature
of the Web environment pose problems for deductive approaches, traditionally employed to reason with
logic-based ontological data. Therefore, new, complementary forms of reasoning are needed on the
Semantic Web, such as inductive reasoning. Moreover, such new approaches would be able to deal with
scalability issues, and complexity and expressiveness of the representation languages.

Topics of interest
============================================================

The topics of interest of the workshop include, but are not limited to:

· Novel Machine Learning models and algorithms

· Large/Complex Machine Learning Environments for the Web

· Machine Learning for the Semantic Web

· Web mining for the Semantic Web

· Statistical learning for the Semantic Web

· Knowledge Discovery and Ontologies

· Machine Learning and Data Mining for Social Networks

· Novel Semantic Web Technologies

· Machine Learning and Semantic Web technologies for sensors, situational awareness and
multimedia.

· Machine Learning and Semantic Web technologies for grids, P2P, services and middleware

· Social Semantic Web Applications
