The 12th Annual Conference on Information Technology Education will be held at the historic Thayer Hotel, on the grounds of the US Military Academy in West Point, New York. The conference is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Information Technology Education (SIGITE). The program contains keynote lectures, paper sessions, panels, posters, and exhibits and provides a forum for sharing and developing ideas relating to Information Technology research, education, applications, IT‐industry‐academia relationships and our roles as professionals, educators, and advocates for the effective use of Information Technology.

The campus of the West Point United States Military Academy is only 40 miles north of New York City. West Point has been called the Best Public Liberal Arts College in the country and offers more than 40 different majors, including a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Travel to West Point takes about an hour and a half from New York by car, train, or bus. Rich in history, nearly 3 million people a year visit the picturesque campus and its visitor’s center, museum, musical concerts, or any of the many historic sites in the nearby vicinity of the campus.

The theme of this year’s SIGITE is Growth and New Vistas and is inspired by the conference location. West Point has a mission to grow and develop its students so that they are ready to deal with the inevitable changes in the world. The academic field of IT has also experienced change. As we enter a new decade, the field of IT will continue to face new vistas of opportunity, change, and challenge. How do we continue to grow the profession and encourage more students to choose IT? What is the scope of research in IT? What are the best practices for covering the knowledge areas in the IT Model Curriculum? How do we balance the challenges of accreditation against the need for curriculum change?

IT Research: While SIGITE 2011 welcomes papers on all aspects of IT education, it also welcomes papers in the area of IT research, such as advances in data storage, effective methods of systems integration, evaluation and maintenance of IT applications and infrastructure, IT project management, and green IT.

Papers (deadline: April 30, 2011) should be high quality, unpublished original work that describe a classroom experience, teaching technique, curricular initiative, or educational research project involving an IT area. Submissions will normally be no longer than six pages and will undergo a blind peer reviewing process. Authors will have approximately 25 minutes for their presentations, including questions and answers. Accepted papers must be presented by at least one author and will be published in the conference proceedings.

Panels (deadline: April 30, 2011) allow experts to discuss a current topic of interest in IT education. Panel organizers are responsible for selecting appropriate panelists to participate. A panel will normally have at most four panelists. Panel submissions should include a list of panelists, their affiliations, a description of the topic, as well as brief position statements from each panelist. Panel proposals are limited to 2 pages.

Posters (deadline: May 30, 2011) present work currently in progress. A one‐page summary of the accepted posters will be published in the conference proceedings.

Exhibits will be made available to publishers, software houses, and other interested vendors. Interested parties are invited to contact the conference organizers for information about presenting an exhibit at the conference.
Students are also encouraged to present papers. SIGITE will cover the conference registration and provide $200 towards expenses of attending the conference for the first ten accepted student papers. The ACM‐W organization will add an additional $500 to this amount for the first ten accepted papers by female students.

Other Dates: Submitters for papers, panels, and posters will be notified of acceptance or rejection by June 15, 2010.

Sheridan Press, the proceedings publisher, will send instructions to accepted authors in advance of the camera‐ready due date in early August.
