Workshop on Tactical Mobile Ad Hoc Networking ============================================== ** SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED: 18th of MARCH ** Held in Conjunction with ACM MobiHoc 2011 : The 12th ACM International Symposium on Mobile Ad Hoc Networking and Computing May 16, 2011 - Paris, France Overview ----------- Many defense, disaster response and other mission-critical applications rely on networking centric systems. They open a new spectrum of capabilities (e.g. global reach, situational awareness and formation flying) and improvements of decision making processes. Instead of using deployable static network infrastructures, a Tactical Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork (MANET) can be rapidly operational, trading off high-performance with flexibility, affordability and survivability while being capable of supporting mission-critical services such as remote navigation and control, coordinated mobility and decisions, collaborative working or blue force tracking. Furthermore, Tactical MANETs must be deployed successfully in non-cooperative (not to say aggressive) environments, on which limited knowledge is available. They must also be managed with no or limited operator interventions, still providing reliable behaviours in spite of large scale topologies. To this end, MANET routing, cross-layering techniques, and cognitive networking must cope with various forms of mobility, link breaks, jamming, node failures and message losses. Many theoretical and practical issues arising with MANETs have been investigated so far. However, a broad range of problems remain open with Tactical MANETs. Scope ----- This multi-disciplinary workshop invites submissions from researchers in industry and academia. Submissions are particularly encouraged on principles of Tactical MANETs as well as on practical experiences with real deployments (including underwater, land and aerospace systems). Topics of relevance include but are not limited to: • Routing protocol customisation and optimisation, to deal with tactical mobility, threat level, adversarial strategies, and dangerous environments. • Tactical MANET architectures, cross-layering and related design techniques to meet critical requirements. Impacts on Medium Access Control, Routing and Transport layers. Coordination of MAC and Routing protocols. Reliable MAC-level routing protocols. Robust MANET network synchronization with and without GPS (GNSS). • Service admission and maintenance for Tactical MANETs, including time-utility requirements, bandwidth management, priorities and criticalities, heavy loads and congestions. • Mission-critical traffic provisioning in MANETs, dealing with route availability, guaranteed bandwidth and delays for mission-critical traffic. • Extreme forms of Tactical MANET: ad hoc short-lived MANETs, long endurance disruptant networking, scalability issues. • Self-healing and self-reconfiguration techniques, failure detection, isolation and recovery. Survivable routing, secondary routing or backup route generation, threat-aware routing. Resilient routing, service and/or route repair, global MANET recovery in nominal state. • Topology control with mission-critical constraints, lifetime optimisation. • Plan aware or mobile-aware routing, related service admission techniques and optimization, considering mission planning constraints, navigation and delay contingencies. • Node localisation and discovery protocols, taking in account uncertain or biased data. • Performance evaluation of routing protocols and cross-layering techniques, considering harsh or difficult environment. Trade-off between connectivity, scalability, threats and performances. The workshop format will consist of technical presentations based on accepted papers, each followed by a Q/A session. Submissions ----------- Submissions may be regular papers (10 pages) or short position papers (4 pages). Position papers should focus on relevance to application domain, positioning, and innovative ideas. All papers should conform to the MobiHoc Standard template (http://www.sigmobile.org/mobihoc/2011/call.html). Each paper will be reviewed by at least two referees.
