Introduction

Over the past decade the use of Renewable Energy Technology (RET) has significantly increased around the globe. Technologies that once were considered experimental are now being deployed on commercial scales at phenomenal rates. These deployments are delivering cost effective substitutes for the conventional, fossil fuel based systems that cause problems including harmful greenhouse gas emissions, expensive operating costs, and global pollution. For society and organizations to truly benefit from these technologies, important stakeholders such as decision and policy makers, system planners, project financiers, and equipment vendors must be able to quickly and easily assess whether a proposed clean energy technology project makes financial and operational sense. Once a system is implemented, they must evaluate Energy efficiency, monitoring the energy utilization, and other considerations that can be tracked with Energy Management Information Systems (EMIS).

Objective of the Book

This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest empirical research findings in the area of renewable energy technology and energy management information systems. This publication will introduce the concept of an Energy Management Information System and explore the role of energy for sustainable development. The book will describe the benefits of these systems to organizations to support corporate sustainability initiatives and sustainable development activities to combat climate change. The publication will present research, modeling techniques, software applications and case studies that reveal how renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and biomass fuel can have a significant implications for both operating costs and environmental impacts.

Target Audience

The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and researchers working in the field of renewable energy technology and energy management Information systems in various disciplines, e.g. economics, information and communication sciences, engineering, sustainable development, computer science, and information technology. Moreover, the book will provide insights and support toexecutives concerned with energy systems modeling, energy efficiency studies, and financial modeling of renewable energy deployments.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Energy management systems concepts
