ASCI Journal of Management
Special Issue on
“Managing Innovations in Emerging Markets”

Description

Peter Drucker defines innovation as ‘a change that creates a new dimension of performance.’ In today’s business environment, innovating quickly and effectively is a definite competitive advantage. Yet, only a few organizations are able to generate breakthrough ideas and effectively move them to market on a regular basis. The organizations that are able to achieve this have some distinct characteristics in the way they manage themselves. While a lot is known about successful innovative organizations in the developed world, including management practices and the ecosystem that fosters innovation, not a great deal of research has been conducted on innovation and its management in emerging markets. However, innovations have also started to trickle in from non-traditional regions and societies that were not earlier considered to be innovative. The emerging markets show a lot of promise for innovation. However, there are many challenges in taking up innovative growth paths in emerging markets. Traditional business mindset, conservative organization culture, remnants of feudal allegiances, non-responsive governments, traditional methods of teaching and learning, which thwart ideation and curiosity from early childhood, economic and societal barriers, lack of financial strength, absence of an innovation culture, rudimentary ecosystem for innovation, etc., are some of the major challenges in managing innovations in these markets. Many more challenges exist. There is a felt need to dwell on these challenges and prospects of innovation management in emerging markets. This special issue of the ASCI Journal of Management is aimed at promoting discussion on these issues.

We therefore invite research papers for the special issue on “Managing Innovations in Emerging Markets” on the following themes:
• Theoretical concepts and frameworks of managing innovations
• Innovations in public service and systems
• Managing innovations at the firm level
• Problems and prospects of managing innovations in emerging markets
• Financing innovations
• Cross-cultural management and innovation
• Ecosystem for innovation in emerging markets
• Managing technology transfer and commercialization in emerging markets
• Geography of innovation
• National innovation systems
