Call For Papers

International Workshop "Scientific Theatre: Multidisciplinary Approach to Designing Intelligent Environments" (SciT'11)
In conjunction with the 7th International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE'11)
Nottingham – UK. 25th-26th of July 2011
http://scientific-theatre.com

Background:
Technology is becoming increasingly people centric. Intelligent environments, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, sensing and mobile technology etc are all about people (of various backgrounds) interacting with technology. This workshop is an attempt to encourage multidisciplinary approach to designing Intelligent Environments and open (often sophisticated) research advances in IT to a wide audience. To achieve this, the ancient of all languages, namely creative art (along with the more conventional methods, such as academic papers), will be used as means of communication to deliver the latest scientific achievements related to the topic of Intelligent Environments.

Goals:
1. To explore what various disciplines have to say about and can contribute to the future development of Intelligent Environments.
2. How concepts used in non-technical research fields could be used to advance the technological development of Intelligent Environments.
3. In what way various disciplines outside science and technology can benefit from the latest achievements in IT in order to establish the environments people would like to work and live in.
4. How achievements in various research and development fields could be effectively communicated to a multidisciplinary audience.

Participation:
Contributions are invited from students and professionals in any discipline who believe that their work is relevant to the topic of Intelligent Environments. Along with conventional research papers, authors are encouraged to submit their work in other (creative) formats, such as: poetry, dance, music, drawing, sculpture, installation, film, cartoon, etc.

Workshop Structure:
The event will include presentation of the accepted work, a keynote speaker talk, a special invited performance, and a panel led discussion involving audience.

The Venue:
Nottingham is in the heart of England and a popular tourist destination attracting an estimated 1.3 million visitors annually. Many visitors are attracted by Nottingham's nightlife, its history, the legend of Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest and popular history-based tourist attractions including Nottingham Castle.
