Aims and Goals of the Conference

In recent years, Multimedia Communications, Services and Security have been contributing extensively to our life experience and are expected to be among the most important applications in the future. The objective of the Multimedia Communications, Services & Security (MCSS’11) conference is to present research and developing activities contributing to aspects of multimedia communications, systems and security. We are inviting both theoretical and experimental papers as well as work-in-progress research. The main topics of interest are as follows:
1. Audio-visual systems including novel multimedia architectures/platforms and management of service oriented architectures
2. Multimedia and data fusion in personal, sensor, peer-to-peer and ad-hoc networks
3. Acquisition of multimedia content and Quality of Experience management in content distribution networks
4. Seamless mobility of multimedia services including mobile and broadband wireless access networks
5. Watermarking technology and applications
6. Network measurement/monitoring and performance evaluation of multimedia services
7. Reliability, availability, serviceability of multimedia services
8. Searching methods, search engines and applications
9. Multimedia surveillance and compound security
10. Semantic description of multimedia data and metadata information systems
11. Intelligent monitoring of objects and areas, recognition with automatic categorization
12. Modern computing methods for multimedia systems and authentication of multimedia contents
13. Interactive multimedia applications
14. Ethical issues in video surveillance and Internet monitoring
15. Intelligent urban environment observation systems including safety monitoring and evacuation
16. Cybercrime – threats and counteracting
17. Law aspects in security research
18. Cryptography and data protection
19. Quantum cryptography
20. Object tracking and threat detection
21. Evaluation of security features in end-user applications
22. Experiments/lessons from recent deployments

Conference objectives are in conformance with objectives of the FP7 Security Research (http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/security/home_en.html). During the conference, a presentation of the FP7 Security Research will be shown. Objectives of the FP7 Security Research are as follows:
* to develop technologies for building capabilities needed to ensure the security of citizens from threats (terrorism, natural disasters, crime), while respecting human privacy,
* to ensure optimal use of technologies to the benefit of civil European security,
* to stimulate the cooperation for civil security solutions,
* to improve the competitiveness of the European security industry, and
* to deliver mission-oriented research results to reduce security gaps.

Regular Proceedings

MCSS’11 papers will be published in conference proceedings (hard- and electronic-copies) in English.

Best Paper Award

One best paper award, selected by the organizing committee, based on referee reviews, will be presented to the author(s) of the best paper submitted to the conference along with other awards presented during the social event.

Paper Submission

Full papers reporting original and unpublished research results on MCSS’11 topics are solicited. Submissions must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere while being evaluated for this conference.
The maximum size of full papers should be 7 pages (A4) including tables and figures. The cover page should contain an abstract of about 150 words, 3-5 keywords, name and affiliation of author(s) as well as the corresponding author's e-mail and postal address.
*  How to submit: The paper submission for MCSS’11 will only be accepted through the online paper submission system accessible from the link on the website. Only papers in PDF, A4 format, will be accepted for reviewing. Submissions as e-mail attachment will not be accepted. A paper can be registered first and then uploaded at any time up to the paper submission deadline. To register or submit a paper, please visit http://mcss2011.indect-project.eu/.
*  Reviewing: Consistent with standard practice, each submitted paper will receive rigorous peer reviewing. Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness, significance, relevance and clarity of presentation. Selection will be based on full papers. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted. All accepted papers of the conference are expected to be presented and will be included in the conference proceedings.

Parallel Poster/Demonstration Session

A parallel poster/demonstration session entitled “Demonstrations on Multimedia Communications, Services & Security” will be organised along with the main conference. This event encourages researchers to present and discuss the “work-in-progress” or “experience-in-practice” of their current studies/implementations and research prototypes which are conforming to that cover the topics of MCSS’11. Authors are invited to submit a short paper of up to 4 pages following the format of conference. All accepted short papers will be included in the proceedings of MCSS’11.

Session on Intelligent Monitoring

Special session on intelligent monitoring, object tracking and threat detection will be organized along with the main conference.

Exhibition

The INDECT MCSS conference will host not only technical program sessions, but also there will be place for exhibition, where research group could present their innovative achievements and prototypes on small booths or stands. Please note there will be official guests in the first day, as well as press, radio and TV will be invited. We’d kindly ask you for your proposals of exhibition stands you would like to have in order to present outcomes of research.
