IEEE CAMAD Special Session on
Design, Modelling and Analysis of Cognitive Radio Networks ----------------------------------------------------- Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) have emerged as one of the fastest growing research area in modern communication systems. The congestion in available wireless spectrum resources combined with the proliferation of pervasive wireless services and applications have been the key drivers for research and innovation in CRNs. The basic building blocks of CRNs consist of intelligent programmable wireless transceivers that can sense their environment and dynamically adapt their transmission features including, transmission waveform, channel access method, spectrum sensing and networking protocols. Cognitive radio enabled channel access significantly differs from traditional wireless channel access mechanisms because of the fact that cognitive radio devices must be able to sense the comeback of licensed user and accordingly vacate the channel to avoid any possible collision. This requires intelligent spectrum sensing techniques in place to help cognitive radio devices find suitable empty spaces. In this context there are challenges as whether the spectrum sensing should be distributed or centralised and research work must address these challenges adequately. Cognitive radio devices portability and mobility require prolonged battery life and thereby the challenge of energy efficient spectrum sensing and subsequent communication remains evergreen research problem. Medium access control schemes designed for CR devices must be optimised for sensing and communication time for prolonged battery life. Stemming from the traditional wireless security, cognitive radio devices suffer from additional security problems, such as common control channel security, primary user emulation attacks, spectrum broker security problems etc.; therefore research work needs to be done to adequately tackle these security related problems. Motivated by the above developments and changes, the aim of this special session is to bring together a group of leading academic researchers and technology experts to provide a platform for discussion on novel ideas and studies related to design, modelling and analysis of CRNs. The research and interest areas to be covered by the special session include, but are not limited to: • Novel algorithms/techniques for spectrum sensing • Modelling and analysis of energy efficient spectrum sensing techniques • Performance analysis of spectrum access in congested environments • Novel protocols and techniques for dynamic spectrum management • Privacy, trust and security issues cognitive radio network • Design of primary user interference mitigation techniques • Cooperative channel access mechanism in cognitive radio networks • Analysis of Quality of Service (QoS) for secondary users in cognitive radio networks • Energy efficiency and security balance in cognitive radio networks • Performance analysis using experimental test beds Important Dates --------------- Paper Submission time on EDAS is according to US (New York) Eastern Time (EST/EDT). • Paper Submission (Special Session) 15 May 2015 23:59:00 • Notification 10 July 2015 • Camera-ready paper submission 1 August 2015 Special Session Organizers ----------------------- Dr. Ghazanfar A.
