Time is among the most fundamental dimensions of human experience, yet it is neither universal nor immutable. It is perceived, conceptualized, narrated, negotiated, and contested through language, culture, media, and technology. From linguistic expressions of temporality and cultural narratives of memory and anticipation to the algorithmic rhythms of digital platforms and AI-driven systems, our understanding of time is increasingly shaped by the symbolic and material environments in which we live.
The International Conference on Language, Culture, Media and Temporal Meaning invites scholars from linguistics, media and communication studies, cultural studies, literary studies, philosophy, digital humanities, and related disciplines to explore the complex relationships between language, culture, media, and temporal experience. The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on how temporal meanings are created, represented, and transformed across linguistic, cultural, and technological contexts. Particular attention will be given to the ways contemporary digital infrastructures, artificial intelligence, and mobile technologies reshape temporal experience while intersecting with longstanding cultural practices, narratives, and symbolic systems. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes: · Language and the conceptualization of time · Cognitive Linguistics and the study of time and temporal meanings · Corpus and computational approaches to the study of changes across time (social, political) and temporal meanings (in language and discourse) · How language shapes temporal cognition and how cultural mediations influence our understanding of time · The evolving language of time in contemporary societies · Temporal metaphors, narratives, and discourse · Time as mediated through material, symbolic, and technological tools · Digital temporalities and algorithmic time · AI, automation, and mobile technologies as producers of new temporal regimes · The role of digital infrastructures in structuring, synchronizing, and maintaining contemporary time · Mediascapes and their multiple temporalities · Platform cultures, social media, and the fragmentation, acceleration, and asynchronicity of temporal experience · Cultural narratives of time, paradoxes of temporality, time koans, and literary explorations of temporal experience · Rituals, calendars, commemorative practices, and social performances as ways of structuring and making sense of time · Memory, anticipation, waiting, delay, and immediacy · Historical, intercultural, and comparative perspectives on temporality · Temporal dimensions of communication, media, and cultural production The conference welcomes individual papers, thematic panels, and interdisciplinary contributions that examine temporality from diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives. We particularly encourage submissions that bridge traditional disciplinary boundaries and engage critically with the challenges posed by rapidly evolving media ecologies and digital technologies. By bringing together researchers working across languages, cultures, media, and technologies, the conference seeks to deepen our understanding of how temporal meanings are produced, negotiated, and transformed in an increasingly interconnected and technologically mediated world. We invite scholars at all career stages to submit original research and join us in exploring the many ways in which language, culture, media, and technology shape our experience and understanding of time. Submission details, important dates, conference venue, and registration information will be announced separately. |
