Vienna, July 5th, 2010
In Conjunction with ICWE 2010 http://icwe2010.webengineering.org/ The goal of this brainshop is to create a community of people interested in harnessing the power of the web, to be able to provide collaborative technologies that foster new ways of Learning and Teaching. Our motivation is to improve education in a sustainable manner, both in technologically advanced countries as well as in developing countries. Participants interested in contributing to this event should be those that are passionate about providing (or helping to provide) high quality education and that are interested in exploring how web-collaboration technologies can assist in matters such as: preparation of class material and its execution, student collaboration in projects, tools supporting education and the creation and management of educational communities. We envision this as an opportunity to gather and discuss about stories of success and failure, about ideas and possibilities; to build together a vision and define a plan towards its completion. More precisely, the desired output of the event is to have: * A consolidated document that describes what we feel is missing in this space, which are the problems we need to solve and technologies we need to develop in the short and medium term * A concrete set of steps for how we may address these problems * A set of consortia for coordinated submissions to european or NSF projects (or from other funding sources) The event will have no formal proceedings. Results will be collected and published from the icebar web page: project-icebar.net. Furthermore, a summary of the results and vision will be published in the ICWE workshop proceedings. Format The event is structured in two phases. The first part consists of *short* presentations and demos about ideas, technologies, results, or experiences. The second part involves the definition of plans, strategies, collaborations, for developing concepts and technologies to facilitate collaborative education, or to collaborate on specific classes. We are confident the ideas and discussions will be taken further and the event will mark just the first milestone of future collaborations. Submission and participation Participation to the event is mainly by invitation. The goal is to gather a group of interesting people from different areas (from academia to industry) with innovative results and fresh views on the topics of the event. We'll publish the list of attendees at the event webpage http://project-icebar.net/events.html We also extend the invitation to the people interested in the event. *To participate*, please submit a maximum 1-page document with an indication of your interest on the event, or the ideas or results to be presented, at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ice20100 Topics The topics of the event are, but not limited to, the following: * Teaching and Learning artifacts sharing * Social networks for education * Web 2.0 and education * Cloud computing and education * Education communities Registration There is no registration fee.
