Workshop to be held in conjunction with the annual Cognitive Science Conference, CogSci 2009,
July 29th 2009, Amsterdam, The Netherlands Deadline for abstract submission: May 31st, 2009 Workshop Topic This workshop explores the function of self and self-awareness in virtual reality (VR). VR technology often creates a mismatch between mind's experiences and bodily senses, enabling virtual presence elsewhere and as such creating multiple simultaneous locations of the self. Thus VR creates a unique environment for exploring the self. Furthermore, a better understanding of self-awareness is critical for enhancing realism and the sense of presence in VR design. Invited speakers * Shaun Gallagher, University of Central Florida, Orlando FL, USA * Robert Leeb, Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria * Joerg Schulte-Pelkum, Max-Plank Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Tubingen, Germany Organizers * Vanja Kljajevic, PhD * Kamilla Johannsdottir, PhD Department of Law and Social Sciences, University of Akureyri, Iceland Important Dates * Abstract Submission Deadline: May 31, 2009 * Notification of Acceptance: June 10, 2009 * Early Registration Deadline: June 24, 2009 * Workshop Date: July 29, 2009 |
