Overview

Although the Web was initially conceived as a vehicle for distributing documents, it has gradually evolved into a platform for delivering interactive applications. Web-based applications are revolutionizing both the features that can be delivered and the technologies for developing and deploying applications. In the future, more and more of the world's interesting applications will be delivered via the Web, displacing the traditional model of installable binaries.

Web applications involve a diverse collection of issues and technologies, and until now there have been few opportunities for interaction and synergy across these areas. The USENIX Conference on Web Application Development (WebApps '10) is a new technical conference designed to bring together experts in all aspects of developing and deploying Web applications.

Topics

For WebApps '10 we invite paper submissions on topics related to Web application development, including but not limited to:

* Computing substrates and deployment technologies ("cloud computing")
* Frameworks for developing Web applications
* Client-side toolkits, libraries, and plug-ins
* Storage systems
* Security issues for Web applications
* Management techniques for large-scale Web applications
* Languages for Web applications
* Scalability issues and techniques
* Techniques for creating highly interactive Web applications
* Software as a service
* Applications that illustrate interesting new features or implementation techniques
* Performance measurements of Web applications
* Real-time data delivery over the Web
* Web services

Submission Instructions

WebApps '10 will consist of a single track of refereed papers. Authors are encouraged to submit technical papers describing original and innovative ideas that advance the state of the art in Web applications. Papers with practical significance will be given priority over purely theoretical results. Submitted papers must be no longer than 12 pages, including figures, tables, and references. Papers should be formatted in two columns, using 10 point type on 12 point (single-spaced) leading, in a text block of 6.5" by 9". The first page of the paper should include the paper title and author name(s); reviewing is single-blind. Papers that do not conform to these requirements will not be reviewed. In a good paper, the authors will have:

* Addressed a significant problem
* Devised an interesting and practical solution
* Clearly described what they have and have not implemented
* Demonstrated the benefits of their solution
* Articulated the advances beyond previous work
* Drawn appropriate conclusions

All papers will be available online to registered attendees prior to the conference and will be available online to everyone starting on June 20, 2009.

If your accepted paper should not be published prior to the event, please notify production@usenix.org.

Simultaneous submission of the same work to multiple venues, submission of previously published work, or plagiarism constitutes dishonesty or fraud. USENIX, like other scientific and technical conferences and journals, prohibits these practices and may, on the recommendation of a program chair, take action against authors who have committed them. In some cases, program committees may share information about submitted papers with other conference chairs and journal editors to ensure the integrity of papers under consideration. If a violation of these principles is found, sanctions may include, but are not limited to, barring the authors from submitting to or participating in USENIX conferences for a set period, contacting the authors' institutions, and publicizing the details of the case.

Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be considered. Accepted submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication on the USENIX WebApps '10 Web site; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as confidential.
