Wide-area sensor infrastructures, remote sensors, RFIDs, and wireless sensor networks yield massive volumes of disparate, dynamic, and geographically distributed data. As such sensors are becoming ubiquitous, a set of broad requirements is beginning to emerge across high-priority applications including adaptability to climate change, disaster preparedness and management, national or homeland security, and the management of critical infrastructures. The raw data from sensors need to be efficiently managed and transformed to usable information through data fusion, which in turn must be converted to predictive insights via knowledge discovery, ultimately facilitating automated or human-induced tactical decisions or strategic policy based on decision sciences and decision support systems. The main motivation for this workshop stems from the increasing need for a forum to exchange ideas and recent research results, and to facilitate collaboration and dialog between academia, government, and industrial stakeholders. This is clearly reflected in the successful organization of the first workshop along with KDD-2007 and second workshop along with KDD -2008. The theme for this year workshop is around the three inter-related global priorities: climate change, energy assurance, and infrastructural impacts.
We solicit high quality papers in the general areas of knowledge discovery from sensors and streams and in areas relating to the theme of this year workshop. Manuscripts should be in English and must not exceed 9 pages using the standard ACM format found at http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates in PDF format and submitted as an email attachment to SensorKDD@gmail.com. Submissions should include the paper title, author(s), authors' affiliations, email addresses, tel/fax numbers, postal addresses, and an abstract on the first page. * Submission Date for Full Papers: April 20, 2009 * Author Notification: May 10, 2009 * Submission of Camera-ready Papers: May 25, 2009 * Full-day Workshop at ACM SIGKDD Conference, Paris, France: June 28, 2009 Interested authors should please click here for further information.
