Call For Papers

Abstract

Most software development projects apply modelling in some stages of development and to various degrees in order to take advantage of the many and varied benefits of it. Modelling is, for example, applied for facilitating communication by hiding technical details, analysing a system from different perspectives, specifying its structure and behaviour in an understandable way, or even for enabling simulations and generating test cases in a mode-driven engineering approach. Thus, the evaluation of modelling techniques, languages and tools is needed in order to assess their advantages and disadvantages, to ensure their applicability to different contexts, their ease of use, and other issues such as skills and costs; either isolated or in comparison with other methods.

This workshop aims to bring together professionals and researchers interested in software modelling to discuss in which way software modelling techniques may be evaluated, share experiences of performing such evaluations and discuss ideas for further research in this area. The workshop accepts both experience reports of applying software modelling in industry and research papers that describe more rigorous empirical studies performed in industry or academia.

Objectives

Build a better understanding of the industrial use of modelling techniques, languages and tools.
Start building theories about the effectiveness of modelling approaches.
Identify directions for future research in the field.
Facilitate and encourage joint research and experimentation in software modelling.

Intended audience

Professionals and researchers interested in software modelling.

Workshop format

The workshop will be a 1-day program consisting of half a day with short papers (20 minutes per paper), and half a day discussion on synthesis of existing results and directions for future/joint research. The workshop will try to attract a keynote by a recognised researcher in the field of Software Modelling/Empirical Software Engineering.

Deadlines

8th July 2013: Workshop paper abstract submission
15th July 2013: Workshop paper submission
10th August 2013: Author notification TBD (no later than two weeks before the early bird registration deadline Camera-ready papers
1st October 2013: Workshop date

Submission

The review process will be performed using EasyChair. Each paper will be reviewed by 3 PC members. Papers format is Springer LNCS (https://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0). Page limit is 8 to 10 pages. URL for submission: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=eesmod2013

Publication

Accepted papers will be published in CEUR (http://ceur-ws.org/), which is indexed by DBLP. Each workshop will have its own volume, with the common ISSN of the CEUR series. Papers will also be published electronically and distributed to all participants prior to the workshop.
