ESEC/FSE 2009 (The seventh joint meeting of the European Software
Engineering Conference
and ACM SIGSOFT Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering) is an
internationally
renowned forum for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and
discuss the most
recent innovations, trends, experiences, and challenges in the field of
software engineering.
Held bi-annually, ESEC/FSE brings together experts from academia and
industry to exchange the
latest research results and trends, as well as their practical application
in all areas of
software engineering.

ESEC/FSE 2009 will offer a strong technical program with an exciting list of
events, including
keynote talks by leaders in the field, challenge presentations,
demonstrations, posters, workshops,
and a doctoral symposium.

TYPES of Contributions:
-----------------------
The following types of contributions are sought:

* Technical papers must present novel results of theoretical or empirical
research, and clearly
identify their contribution to the state of the art and/or their potential
usefulness to industry.
Experience papers that report "lessons learned" of interest and benefit to
the broader ESEC/FSE
audience are also welcome. All submissions must be original work, and must
not have been previously
published, nor be in consideration for publication elsewhere.

* Presentations on challenges and visionary ideas in relevant software
engineering topics will
complement the Technical papers program.

* Workshops will provide a forum for the rapid dissemination of ongoing
research activities,
offering the opportunity for exchanging views and advancing ideas in a less
formal setting.
Workshops will be held before the main conference and can be half a day to
two days in duration.

* The Doctoral Symposium will provide Ph.D. students with an opportunity to
present and discuss
their research with senior researchers in the software engineering
community.

* Demonstrations and posters will cover innovative technologies, platforms,
and tools supporting
software engineering. Demonstration and posters proposals should be
submitted to the
Demonstration/Poster Chairs.

Contributions to the above events on any field of software engineering are
invited, including,
but not limited to:

* Requirements engineering
* Specification and verification
* Software architecture and design
* Analysis and testing
* Development paradigms and software processes
* Evolution and change management
* Tools and environments
* Empirical software engineering
* Software quality and performance
* Formal methods
* Global software development
* Component-based software engineering
* Model-driven engineering
* Web-based systems
* Distributed systems and middleware
* Service-oriented systems
* Mobile systems
* Pervasive computing systems
* Embedded and real-time systems
* Grid computing systems
* Human-centered software engineering
* Aspect orientation
* Open standards and certification
* Software economics and human resources
* Dependability (safety, security, reliability)
* Case studies and experience reports

SUBMISSION and EVALUATION:
--------------------------
Submissions to ESEC/FSE 2009 must not have been previously published or be
under
consideration for publication in any other conference, journal, book, or
workshop.
Authors must comply with ACM policy and procedures with respect to
plagiarism.

Submissions, as well as final papers, must be submitted as PDF and strictly
adhere
to ACM proceedings format, including font sizes, line spacing, and margins.
Papers
are strictly limited to 11 pages in this format, and submissions exceeding
11 pages
will be summarily rejected without review.

Submissions will be made through an on-line submission system. Details will
be posted
on the conference web site closer to the submission date.

Accepted papers will be published in the ACM digital library. Each paper
accepted
must be presented by one of the co-authors. If an author of an accepted
paper has
patent applications for which the early release of the paper may create a
patent
problem, please contract to have your paper held until the first day of the
conference.
