Call For Papers

Poetics and Praxis: Designing Pleasurable Products and Interfaces 2013
3rd – 5th September 2013, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

www.praxisandpoetics.org/dppi

The Designing Pleasurable Products and Interfaces conference is a leading venue for designers, artists, psychologists, systems engineers, social scientists and many more to come together to debate and define future design research and practice. The theme of this year’s conference is Praxis and Poetics. With this theme we reflect on a decade of the DPPI conference series and celebrate great diversity of research on the pleasures, emotions, and experiences of technology and how these perspectives feed into design practice.

As an interdisciplinary venue, DPPI welcomes submissions from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds including: design, human-computer interaction, engineering, the arts and humanities, social science and psychology. We call for the submission of a broad range of research outcomes related to the experiential, emotional and aesthetic qualities of design as it relates to graphical, tangible and wearable interfaces. Specifically, however, we encourage submissions addressing the diversity of poetics in design, such as:

Desire
Creativity
Art
Sexuality
Spirituality
Craft
Tradition
Talent
Gaming
Play
Humour
Embodiment
Mythology
Sublimity
Utopianism

Papers published at DPPI 2013 are archival publications and therefore represent a significant contribution to interaction design, product design and human-computer interaction research and practice.

All submissions should be formatted using the DPPI 2013 Word template. Sorry LaTex users, but it is not supported by DPPI.

Papers should be no longer than 10 pages. All submissions should be anonymised for peer review and submitted via the DPPI precision conference submission system (currently not open, but check back here soon).

IMPORTANT DATES
1st June 2013: Submission deadline
8th July 2013: Author notifications
24th July 2013: Camera-ready deadline
3rd-5th September 2013: DPPI 2013 conference

PAPER REVIEWING
All papers will be rigorously double blind reviewed by members of the conference programme committee and peer experts. This year, the DPPI organisers are trialling a novel method of peer review whereby all submitting authors agree to review three other submissions to the conference (that is three reviews per submission, not per author). The programme committee may ask authors for specific changes as a condition of publication based upon the reviews.
