Call For Papers

The availability of information across media and genres, across languages, and across modalities constantly increases. How people access this information is highly dependent on the context of their interaction and this context is influenced by a range of factors such as the time, place, and history of interaction, the tasks motivating the interaction and the technical possibilities of the information systems. Although the use of information systems is heavily affected by contextual factors, Information Retrieval and Seeking research is largely conducted out of context.

IIiX will explore the relationships between the contexts that affect Information Retrieval and Seeking, how these contexts impact on information behaviour, and how knowledge of information contexts can help design truly interactive information systems.

IIiX invites research contributions that approach information contexts from a broad range of perspectives, such as context surrounding documents, context influencing seeking humans and their tasks, the context of information seekers and providers, the context of interactive search, and the technical contexts of information systems.

IIiX encourages the submission of original, high quality research papers, that have not been previously published and are not under review for another conference or journal, in any of the symposium topics of interest. All submissions will be reviewed by an international programme committee and all accepted research papers will be published in the symposium proceedings by a major publisher. Submissions may either be full research papers (max 5000 words) or research in progress papers (max 2000 words). Full details on submissions are available on the submission page. We welcome presentation submissions connected with any aspect of the above, including the following:

* Case studies, field experiments, simulations, etc. of context-sensitive information seeking & retrieval
* Context-aware retrieval models
* Relevance feedback (implicit & explicit) and query modification issues for capturing context
* Other approaches to eliciting, identifying and expressing/capturing contextual information
* Task-based interactive information retrieval and seeking behaviour
* The effect of genre, media, language, modality and structure on context
* Personalised and collaborative information access in context
* Contextual information interaction theory
* Interactive information retrieval and interface issues
* Nature of relevance in contexts
* Measures of performance in context and situation-sensitive information access
* Test collections for context-sensitive research

The papers should be submitted electronically through the conference submission software no later than *May 1, 2008* in PDF format.
