***************************************************************************
2nd International Workshop on Open Data (WOD 2013) Bibliotheque Nationale de France Paris, June 3, 2013 http://www-etis.ensea.fr/WOD2013 *************************************************************************** There is a vast and rapidly increasing quantity of scientific, corporate, government and crowd-sourced data published for open access. Open Data are expected to play a catalyst role in the way structured information is exploited in the large scale, and offers a great potential for building innovative products and services that create new value from already collected data and is expected to foster active citizenship (e.g., journalism, greenhouse gas emissions, food supply-chains, smart mobility, etc.) and world-wide research according to the ?fourth paradigm of science?. The most noteworthy advantage of Open Data is that facts are recorded rather than documents, which become the basis for the discovery of new knowledge that is not contained in any individual source, and the solution of problems that were not originally anticipated by their creators. The vision of a data-driven decision-making is become nowadays a reality. In particular, Open Data published according to the Linked Data Paradigm transform the Web from a document publishing-only environment into a vibrant information ecosystem where yesterday?s passive readers have become active data aggregators and generators themselves on the so-called data Web. The WOD series of workshops aims at fostering research on existing technology barriers that currently impede progress to create value from Open Data. WOD 2013 aims to be a premier venue to gather computer science researchers and practitioners who are contributing to and interested in the emerging movement of Open Data. Hence, it is a unique opportunity to find in a single place up-to-date scientific works on Web-scale Open Data issues that have so far only partially been addressed by different research communities such as Data Management, Data Mining and Knowledge Management, Distributed Systems, Data Privacy, and Data Visualization. WOD?13 is focused along the following key themes: * Big Data Management in the Cloud * Large Scale Data Integration * Semantic Data Extraction and Enrichment * Exploratory Searching and Browsing * Entity Resolution and Data Linking * Data Curation and Long-term Usability * Data Evolution and Provenance * Data Publishing and Privacy * Data Visualization and Analytics Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are not being considered for publication in any other forum. Every submission that jointly covers one or several of the above topics is warmly encouraged. Submissions should not exceed six pages in the WOD 2013 format. The content of submissions is expected to meet the standards of international conferences and workshops. Vision and position papers are specifically welcome. *** Demonstration session *** We encourage submissions from both academia and industry reporting prototypes of Open Data systems. Demonstration submissions are limited to two pages in the WOD 2013 format. All submissions should highlight practical lessons or innovative applications from managing real scale Open Data. Important dates Paper Submission Deadline: March 17, 2013. Notification of acceptance or rejection: April 22, 2013. Camera ready version due: May 17, 2013. Workshop day: June 3, 2013. Extended version deadline: July 12, 2013 *** Invited talk *** Dr. Mariano P.
