Workshop Proposal
10th International Workshop on Data Mining in Bioinformatics (BIOKDD?11) in conjunction with ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (SIGKDD'11) http://bio.informatics.iupui.edu/biokdd11 August 21-24, 2011 San Diego, CA CALL FOR PAPERS -------------------------------------------------- The goal of the BIOKDD workshop is to encourage KDD researchers to take on the numerous challenges that Bioinformatics offers. This year, the workshop will feature the theme of ?Data Analysis Challenges in High throughput Sequencing?. High throughput sequencing is revolutionizing biological, biomedical, and health research. There are enormous data analysis and knowledge discovery challenges in the high throughput sequencing technology, including alternative slicing pattern discovery, whole transcription sequence alignment, epigenetics site discovery, storing and compression of high volume sequence data and clustering and classification of structural variations in a population. We encourage papers that propose novel data mining techniques for areas including but not limited to * High throughput sequencing data analysis * Genome structural variation analysis * Phylogenetics and comparative Genomics * DNA microarray data analysis * RNAi and microRNA analysis * Protein/RNA structure prediction * Sequence and structural motif finding * Modeling of biological networks and pathways * Statistical learning methods in bioinformatics * Computational proteomics * Computational biomarker discoveries * Gene-environment, Gene-drug, drug-drug interaction discoveries * Computer aided drug discoveries * Biomedical Text mining * Biological data management techniques * Genome-wide association studies * Semantic webs and ontology-driven biological data integration methods * Knowledge discovery in electronic health records * Privacy and security issues in mining health databases Papers should be at most 10 pages long, single-spaced, in font size 10 or larger with one-inch margins on all sides.? Paper in PDF format can be sent to both of the program co-chairs by email. Camera-ready format papers may be referenced from previous BIOKDD conference proceedings. IMPORTANT DATES (tentative) ---------------------------- 5/13/2011 Deadline for Submission of papers 6/19/2011 Notification of Acceptance; Workshop Registration Open 7/01/2011 Submission of Camera Ready Papers 7/21/2011 Workshop Presentation PUBLICATION ------------ Submission of accepted paper: For accepted workshop papers, we require that each camera-ready paper be formatted strictly according to the official ACM Proceedings Format. Please submit PDF file only. To prepare for the camera-ready PDF file submission, you may use either the Microsoft word template or the Latex files preparation instructions found at the ACM website. All final camera-ready submissions must be accompanied by a completed digital copy (scanned Okay) of the ACM copyright transfer form, or else the paper cannot be included in the final workshop proceedings. Publication of proceeding and expanded papers: The proceeding will be made available on the workshop website, and from ACM digital library. Selected best papers from the workshop will be invited for consideration for publication in the scientific programming journal (http://www.iospress.nl/loadtop/load.php?isbn=10589244) ? already confirmed. Also we are in the process of negotiation with BMC Bioinformatics journal for a special issue from a second set of selected best papers from this workshop. Update of the journal/book publication will be announced at the web site: http://bio.informatics.iupui.edu/biokdd11/ WORKSHOP ORGANIZERS -------------------- General Chairs: Jake Chen Indiana University School of Informatics Indiana University?Purdue University Indianapolis 535 W.
