Information fusion in ambient intelligence
Editor-in-Chief: Dr. Belur V. Dasarathy, FIEEE belurd@gmail.com http://belur.no-ip.com The Information Fusion Journal is planning a special issue on the engineering of information processing for ambient intelligence based systems. Last few years have seen the proliferation in our everyday lives of technologies for automatically interacting with the environment. Well-known examples are applications related to timetables, location, identity, movement, orientation, face and speech, based on the use of devices such as notebooks, tablets, smart phones, surveillance cameras or presence sensors. This scenario offers important opportunities for systems that seamless integrate with people activities to facilitate them. However, this vision still faces numerous and challenging open issues. Some of them are related with the difficulties to manage information in these systems: large volumes of data, gathered from heterogeneous and distributed sources, and processed for different purposes. The application of Artificial Intelligence research to these problems is one of the more promising and active approaches in this context. It offers techniques for systems to work explicitly on knowledge and information, and to provide context-awareness and adaptability, which are central to ambient intelligence. This special issue of Information Fusion aims to provide a complete overview of these trends and become a reference for those concerned with the current state of the art and new frontiers on the use of Artificial Intelligence to provide ambient intelligence systems focusing on information fusion aspects. Manuscripts covering both research and practical aspects of the use of Artificial Intelligence in ambient intelligence based systems, with an emphasis on engineering issues for information fusion, are invited. There is a particular interest in the role of integrating approaches that provide solutions covering different aspects of ambient intelligence. This does not rule out any specific topic in this field, so works exhibiting solutions for specific problems are also sought. However, it is mandatory that all submissions to the special issue should clearly demonstrate the beneficial role of information fusion in their study. It should be noted that manuscripts should be original and not previously published either in full or in part or presented even in a more or less similar form at any other forum. Absolutely no cut and pastes from any prior publications(of text and/or figures or tables or other illustrations) will be permitted. All such reproduced material should be excluded by generous use of citations to the relevant prior publications wherever necessary within the text of the Journal submission The manuscript will be judged solely on the basis of new contributions excluding the contributions made in earlier publications. Contributions should be described in sufficient detail to be reproducible on the basis of the material presented in the paper and the references cited therein. The following is a list of typical topics within the Artificial Intelligence area of knowledge. We seek papers that address one or more of these topics when applied in the ambient intelligence domain and specifically focused on the aspects related to information fusion. Such topics include, but are not necessarily limited to: Bio-inspired computing Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Constraint satisfaction Data Mining Emotional computing Evolutionary computing Game playing and interactive entertainment Human-Computer Interaction Information extraction and integration Knowledge Engineering and Applications Machine Learning Modeling and Simulation Multi-Agent Systems Natural Language Processing Neural networks Planning and Scheduling Probabilistic Reasoning Robotics Swarm intelligence Uncertainty and Fuzzy Systems Manuscripts should be submitted electronically online at http://ees.elsevier.com/inffus The corresponding author will have to create a user profile if one has not been established before at Elsevier. The guest editors listed below may be contacted for additional information. Guest Editor(s) Juan A. Botía, Universidad de Murcia (Spain), juanbot@um.es Rubén Fuentes-Fernández, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), ruben@fdi.ucm.es Manuscript Deadline: August 31, 2013 |
