The conflicting demands of high performance, low energy consumption,
and short time-to-market on embedded processors have forced a re-evaluation of the design process. Domain-specific embedded processors, such as network, automotive, and others, present interesting architectural refinements. Reprogrammable and reconfigurable embedded processors provide an alternative approach, capable of delivering a single, fixed-silicon device that can amortize manufacturing costs for low-to-medium volume market segments. This special issue explores (micro-) architectural design approaches, trade-offs and compiler technologies, for both domain-specific and customizable embedded processors. All manuscripts are subject to standard rigorous review process of ACM TECS. Prospective authors should submit their manuscripts electronically via the Manuscript Central website (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tecs). Authors should clearly identify their papers as submissions for the “Special issue on Application Specific Processors” on their manuscript and in the “Author’s Cover Letter”-field of the web submission form. The papers should adhere to standard ACM TECS formatting requirements. The page count limit is 25, additional pages will not be allowed. Publication: approx. late 2011 |
