Modern large-scale IS engineering projects typically involve the cooperation of a wide range of systems and tools that use different technical platforms and heterogeneous data models. Today?s system integration technologies are suitable to bridge most of the technical and semantic gaps between these systems and tools. However, error-prone and time-consuming human work (e.g., manually copying information from one tool to another) is often needed to handle integration concerns at the interfaces of the different tools.

The goal of the workshop is the investigation of methods and techniques for the technical and semantic integration of multi-vendor (heterogeneous) engineering tools to improve effectiveness and efficiency of engineering projects.

Typically each engineering role (e.g., electrical engineer or software engineer) has a tailored tool set that works on data relevant to the engineer?s tasks. In order to support the data exchange between these engineering tools, an additional component is needed. In a typical process step in the engineering process an engineer exports data from his tool to a transfer document (e.g., PDF of data table) and integrates this document in a common repository accessible by a set of partner engineering tools. The major challenges here are on the one hand side in the identification and description of tool data that should be extracted from tools and made available to other tools. On the other hand side, the data integration itself poses another huge challenge, since it is often not possible to agree on a common data schema agreed on by all tools, and additionally all engineers working with the tools want to stick with their well-known terms and notations.

Submission

Submit a full paper of at most 12 pages (Springer LNCS formatting guidelines - http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-791344-0), including figures and references. The contact author must provide the following information to the workshop chairs: paper title, authors' names, affiliations, postal address, phone, fax, and e-mail address of the author(s), about 200-250 word abstract, and about five keywords. Prepare your paper in PDF file and submit it to the workshop organizers.

Submission of a paper implies that should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register and present the paper in the conference. Submissions will be reviewed by at least 3 PC members following a double-blind review process. Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance.


Workshop Organization

Authors of accepted submissions will be asked to give a 10-15 minutes presentation of their research work. Presentations should include research results, interesting research questions, and open issues to be discussed during the workshop. After each presentation, a pre-assigned discussant will provide a critical review of the paper. This will be guided by a list of questions provided by the workshop organizers. Discussion points of major interest will be focused in a dedicated discussion session at the end of the workshop. Two particular roles are taken on by the INISET attendees:

- A presenter presents his paper but additionally will be asked to take on the role of a discussant for another paper (all the papers will be distributed to the participants in PDF format approx. two weeks prior to the event).

- A discussant prepares the discussion of a paper. The discussants task is to give a review of the paper directly after its presentation. This task will be guided by a predefined set of questions provided by the INISET organizers.
