Third Workshop on Engineering Complex Distributed Systems (ECDS 2009)
March 16-19, 2009, Fukuoka, Japan In conjunction with Third International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems (CISIS 2009). We encourage you to sumbit papers to our workshop. If you are interested in distributed system issues and have either experience papers or theoretical solutions, we look forward to your submission. Keywords: Distributed objects, Middleware, Web Services, Design Patterns, J2EE, CORBA, .NET, MDA, SOA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scope The design of modern software application systems, especially that of distributed systems is a rather complex and difficult task. With the increasing complexity of software applications the need for infrastructures providing generic middleware and service functionality becomes more eminent. Distributed object standards such as Web Services, CORBA, J2EE, and .NET are currently adopted by various enterprises as fundamental technologies. Consequently, these architectures continue to advance and new functionality and services are introduced. The advances in wireless communication, ubiquitous computing and the continued applicability of Moore's law make new advanced applications - in principle - possible, and such applications can often also be demonstrated in an ad-hoc fashion. However, to offer such applications on a larger scale and to merge them with existing applications and infrastructures is very difficult. 'Smart' and 'context-aware' systems are great for end-users, if they are non-intrusive and have user-friendly interfaces, but they are hard to design, maintain and integrate. Design support (e.g. based on MDA, SOA) and system support (e.g. mobile middleware) are necessary to shift/shield application complexity and to ease designers and end-users. In this workshop various aspects of designing and implementing distributed computing will be discussed. The scope ranges from theoretical research to practical experience and real-life applications. Topics Possible Topics include but are not limited to: Software engineering approaches such as design patterns, methodologies (e.g. MDA), and best practices Modelling and meta modelling in the development of distributed systems Deployment of distributed systems Software architectures for distributed systems Use of and extensions to technologies such as CORBA, J2EE, and .NET Middleware support Event-based, publish/subscribe and asynchronous platforms for distributed systems Information systems based on distributed objects Distributed and mobile agents Mobile computing Applications of distributed objects Web-based distributed architectures Software engineering approaches Experience reports Papers must describe original work, and must not have been accepted or submitted for publication elsewhere. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, which will be published by IEEE Computer Society. Important Dates Papers due: September 30th, 2008 Notification of acceptance: November 20th, 2008 Final papers due: December 15th, 2008 Conference / Workshop date: March 16-19, 2009 Submission Guidelines Authors are invited to submit research and application papers following the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns, single-spaced, including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and number each page. You can confirm the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Author Guidelines URL: http://computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm. The papers should be submitted electronically via CISIS-09 website (http://www.cisis-conference.eu/). The papers should be written in English and the length should not exceed 6 pages (including figures and tables). Submission of a paper implies that should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register and present the paper in the conference. Submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition. Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance. Proceedings of the workshops will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press.
