Although preoccupation with the problem of evil is longlasting and probably culturally universal, which is witnessed by the status of the theme in the myths of the ancient world, as well as in other kinds of narrative and parenetic literature from different cultures, numerous aspects of the interpretation of evil are culturally determined and subject to constant change. Changes in the perception of evil in Western culture are most visible in transformations of the forms of its personification, which is brilliantly shown in the tetralogy of 'radical evil' by American historian of religion Jeffrey Bur- ton Russell, which consists of the monographic studies The Devil: Perceptions of Evil from Antiquity to Primitive Christianity (1977), Satan: The Early Christian Tradition (1981), Lucifer: The Devil in the Middle Ages (1984), and Mephistopheles: The Devil in the Modern World (1986).

In this thematic issue of Croatica et Slavica Iadertina, we want to collect the unpublished results of recent original research to set the foundation for future comparative investigations of forms of the personification of evil in literary communities that use Slavic languages. Even though we primarily hope to receive literary analyses of the forms of the personification of evil in various Slavic traditions, from as many literary periods and stylistic formations as possible, we are also interested in studies on theatre and film presentations of the personification of evil, as well as in onomastic studies on names given to evil entities.

Although topics are not strictly defined, the following ones are suggested to help their invention:

- etymology and formation of Slavic names for demons
- characters and figures of the personification of evil in Slavic mythology and moral literature
- comparative investigations of characters and figures of the personification of evil in Slavia Orthodoxa and Slavia Romana
- transformations of characters and figures of the personification of evil in transfers of texts from non-Slavic to the Slavic languages and vice versa
- functions of the disembodied and embodied forms of the personified moral evil in Slavic literature, theatre, and film
- functions of the human and non-human personifications of moral evil in Slavic literature, theatre, and film
- radical evil as a permanent determinant and adopted habitus of a literary, theatre, or film character
- phenomenon of the charismatic, grotesque, and comic personification of evil in Slavic literature, theatre, and film.

The papers for the thematic issue 'From the Antichrist to Woland: Personification of Evil in the Slavic Languages, Literature, Theatre, and Film' must be submitted to csi.unizd@gmail.com. The deadline is 1 May 2025, and publishing is scheduled for December 2025.

For the publication of the paper, a positive preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Board and two positive double-blind peer reviews are required.
